does anybody know where to rent a bike and ride anywhere near san diego? thanks for any info

I've been out to San Diego twice. I shipped one of my mountain bikes out the first time, and rented a road bike the second. I rented from these guys, right in the downtown area:

When I first went out there, it seemed really hard to find anyone that had mtb rentals. It looks like Bike Revolution rents both road and mountain though. I don't know anything about their mountain bikes, but I got a decent Jamis road bike for $100/week. The guy in the shop was cool and I would recommend them.

Mission Trails (I don't have a good gpx of it) is just outside the city limits and is good for a quick spin. I also really enjoyed riding Sweetwater (http://connect.garmin.com/activity/149666735). You can ride to Sycamore Canyon (http://connect.garmin.com/activity/148548969) on some trail that starts out by a high school, although there is military land in the middle of questionable legality. Noble Canyon is supposed to be awesome, but it's an hour or so east and I didn't get a chance to get out there. Same with the San Juan Trail up in OC (two hours north). Check out geoladders.com for more gpx files.

I might be back out there in early April, but I'm not sure what my biking plans will be this time.

The Mission Trails are one of the closest to downtown and offer wide open trails and some elevation.

Noble Canyon trail is about an hour outside the city and just on the edge of the desert. Well worth the drive. You climb for like an hour and then go downhill for a long time.

For bike rentals, some of the mail order places have higher end rentals,

I'll be in San Diego the end of August with 2 full days to ride, no rental car though. I'm leaning towards a road rental for this reason, anyone have a few good loops? I'm not opposed to taking a short train ride to start outside if the city for a nicer ride. @JimN do you have any rides from your trip out there?

My road riding last time was not very exciting but that's because I didn't leave the city. Also looking to put together some longer stuff than this (~50+ if it's not all straight up)

Thanks man. Did the ride back on the ferry last time, will probably do it again.

That's also the shop I rented from last time, had a good experience so I will be going back to them. Great location to visit for anyone else absorbing this info. Literally can't walk in any direction without bumping into a good place to eat or drink.
