I think I found it. Was riding on a main trail, noticed an opening, it went by a mining trench. The east side of the park really reeks of a dead animal, btw.

I can say that the number of dead animals in the past month has gone out of control. We do road rides out of the house and it's normal now to pass 4-5 dead deer on the road, or at the very least smell them.

I rode there yesterday and it did appear that the trail that I assumed was the "rogue" one was closed. Didn't notice any dead animal smells but I did encounter live deer absolutely everywhere.
