MTB Pressure Gauge recommendation?

In preparation for dialing in my crossike for a road ride today I broke out my pressure gauge and used it on my MTB just for kicks. I have been very happy with the way the MTB is running since I put on the Nevegal 2.3s. I was a bit shocked to see that I have been running ( with tubes ) 20 PSI on both tires ( including KVSP H2H ).

The pressure gauge I have today is great but it is analog with a huge range so getting closer than 5psi accuracy is not possible. Anyone have a digital guage they like? Or analog with a narrower range?

I inflated the MTB to 30psi for now, anyone running much below 30 with tubes?

Thanks in advance

W

I was running about 32psi with tubes. Then I got a pinch flat on rear tire.
Enough of that...

Just converted to stans no tubes and an running low 20s problem free.

tagging because I also need a better pressure gauge

All I know about gauges is that readings usually vary from gauge to gauge. Maybe it was just me but I used 3 different gauges and had 3 different readings. Never used a digital tho. I wouldn't worry about the actually psi I would find a pressure you like and just use the same gauge every time you adjust pressure. If you use a different gauge every time your probably going to have different psi.

I was running the same tires at 28 fr 32 rr on most trails in central nj. FS bike 190lbs. But like I said, that was my gauge.

Get a decent floor pump. It'll have a good gauge on it.
With high pressure-low volume bike tires you can lose 2-5 psi every time you check your pressure with a seperate gauge.

good enough for race cars so it's good enough for mtb. they're only for schrader only obviously. price range from $20 all the way into $400! i'm tubeless now so i just use my ultra-accurate measuring device...aka my fingers...to pinch it :D

what i do is pump it higher than the target and use the bleed-off valve while the chuck is still attached to dial it in really close.

I recently bought an ACCU GAUGE.It has brass fittings,I think it is a spring gauge,Max reading 160PSI,in 5psi increments, there is a space between the increments to eyeball 2.5 psi,it holds the reading untill you press a button to release it.The only problem is it only works on presta valves.I bought it at the Bike Stand in Scotch Plains, looks like you are nearby in Plainfield

Eventually i'll get a better gauge/find my old one, but yesterday i picked up a cheapo tire gauge from autozone for some sort of reading since i was honestly curious as to where i was (normally just go by feel). Turns out that with tubes i was at about 15-20 psi in each tire. No issues within the recent past, but i brought the pressure up to about 30 psi to be safe. Thinking that i'll eventually go tubeless, but not right now. I weigh in about 215 though, so i'd prefer not to blow out a tube going over a TTF because i let the pressure drop too low.

I would go +1 on this. I have seen gauges that are off by up to 10 psi. I like to have my tires as low as possible w/o pinch flatting - well at least when I used to run tubes. Start with 30PSI or so (on your gauge), ride at that PSI for a few weeks. Then go with 28PSI for another few weeks. If you pinch flat, go back to 30PSI. Experiment until you find a good PSI (relatively according to your gauge) that works for you.

these (bourdon tube guages) are supposed to be the most accurate gagues based on research i have done for other purposes, i keep one like it in my glove box of my truck so its always there when i need it (this is for the truck tires not the bike tires, but im sure they are made for bikes too)

I use a Schwalbe digital. It's consistent with itself but I haven't compared it to anything else. 18 to 20 psi in the MtB and 25 to 30 in the bikepacker.

I'm on my second SKS Airchecker after having the first one break under warranty (2015). The schrader side pushed in on the first one. The second one also broke about about a year ago and I said the heck with it. I bought the following gauges:

For the mountain bike:

For the fat bike:

Been happy ever since....They have a lifetime re-calibration/replacement warranty as well. Just have to pay a small fee...

Edit:
Just saw this new model below. They now sell it with a rubber guard...

Thread resurrection!
What do you guys recommend for a good digital pressure gauge now?

The Accu-gage ones are great, especially for fat or plus low pressures, but they're pretty sensitive if you ever drop it. Who knows how accurate the Topeak is but thats the one I use. If you set your tire to feel as you should, then you just use that same pressure every time with the same gauge. #winning

Yeah... I am not too concerned with whether or not the readings are correct but would like something that is consistent.

I like the last one, need one pronto for winter pressures
