I read an article a while back in guitar player magazine. Steve lukather a good friend of eddie van halen visit eddie in his house and play his rig axe and effects. And he was surprised that he still sounds the same. Nothing like EVH and he said, your tone is your tone no matter what guitar or rig you used. True story. My Opinion on buying guitars is I based it on the artist that I idolized. Strat from hendrix, SRV, blackmore, iron maiden to frusciante. Ibanez was from paul gilbert, satriani and steve vai. It varies on your left finger and pick attack.
 
I'll go up to $150 because that's all you'll get on eBay. Don't think about what you're losing, think about having $150 towards a new Les Paul.
