I had to go look up what this was used for...... what are rim brakes? 😂
I was wondering the same thing. Looks like some new technology for bicycle brakes, pretty interest concept. Instead of using a rotor w/ a caliper like a car they just machine the outside of the rim so it's the rotor and the caliper is a set of arms that push the pads onto both sides of the rim.

Looks like lots of benefits compared to a thin rotor and caliper. The whole rim can dissipate the heat and the pads seem way larger. Less weight too as the caliper bolts each fork leg or both seat stays so less forces on one piece. I'm sure we'll see this technology in downhill first although it looks like it may be way lighter than the convential disc brakes so maybe XC will adopt it first.
