Crank is Grinding

Ok... I don't quite know how to explain this.

Sometimes... when peddling... I hear a minor grinding coming from the crank area. I can feel it in my feet too...
This is only sometimes but it seems to be progressing.

I though it may be the derailleur needing adjusting but I'm not so sure.

This is an older bike so I'm wondering if I have to grease up the bearings?

I am really fretting taking her in again so I was hoping to be able to at least give this trouble a look at before bringing into a shop. Maybe it's something simple that I can take care of on my own.

Figured I'd post up here before making any moves though.

My dad would say... "Put some WD40 on it, that'll fix it!" But you know, he's kinda old school... :)

WD40 actually helps me locate the problems. and then fix it. never leave the WD40 there and think its fixed.

I had a similar problem with the grinding when i had my "crappy" bike. far from what i have now haha. It had an internal bb and alot of grime would get in their and cause the sound. all you need to go is clean it, lube it, and ride.

To see if it is the derailleur, switch between gears and see if the noises stop. if not, then you isolated the problem to the bb
