What beer are you drinking RIGHT NOW?

In Asheville...apparently here for the biking but the breweries are also worthy of visiting.

Spent some time at Wicked Weed...XLVI Salted Chocolate Black Saison

Ironically yesterday in Jeremy's thread I mentioned that I don't really drink beers during the week, but, a) I'm off this week, and 2), Mrs Walter got a new job/big promotion, so we are celebrating.

I mentioned to her that it's only 3.8 abv, she said "why bother". Love my woman.

Did you have Pliny elder???? Was that skinny ass fast moving bartender there???
Oh yes, had the Pliny.
Negative on the skinny ass bartender.
There were 2 surly bearded dwarves working the taps Friday night. Still got my Pliny though ;-)

You here now??

Had a good day. My boy Edd gave me a tour of his old stomping grounds.

First stop: Lagunitas

Little sumpin sumpin, chased with their IPA.

Last stop: Russian River Brewery

Lot to offer, but for me, nothing but Pliny.

Missed out on the bottles so none coming home with me, but grabbed a growler for tailgating tomorrow.

Cause I need another frickin' growler.

How was pliny? Can a beer really live up to that much hype?

The Pliny is pretty great. Really well balanced and nothing over the top about it, best enjoyed as a full pint to really appreciate it. Not like one note beers that you just get after the first sip. It will be my first choice while I'm out here.

But the hype around these holy grail beers is just way out of proportion. The brewery is doing a great job cultivating it, and folks are keeping the ball rolling. This is something I don't like, and was a strike against Pliny before I even had one. You shouldn't have to go to heroic measures to be able to enjoy a top beer.
