WTB bike for trainer

Pulled the trigger on a trainer, so I guess I need something to use with it.
I have a 2011 mtb with an 8 speed cassette, trainer has a 10 speed cassette.
Not sure if it's worth converting the mtb, or finding something cheap that will work with it.

I guess I need at least a 58cm, lmk what you have.

Not too many 58” come around but I’m the same size will keep my eyes open.

Since im still running a wheel on smart trainer I have an old Raleigh 8speed I got complete for $125 last year. It’s great but I run out of gears sometimes wish I had 10 speed. But overall it does the job I need from Dec- march or when the weather is not safe to ride and it’s so convenient to just jump on and go.

Also suggest you if plan to use zwift get an appleTV and connect to an old TV with a HDMI cable. Works flawless every time.

Thanks, I do plan on Zwift. But buying an apple TV won't be an option with the other goodies I need

Don't do the MTB/trainer combo. You will run out of gearing and constantly spin out. 2x road gearing is practically a requirement for things like Zwift. Speaking of which, depending on if you are using Zwift and a compatible trainer, you can get around this with virtual shifting. You park the gearing in some combo and the equipment figures out the ratio and you shift the in-game gears with a controller. So much easier and you can forget about any drivetrain issues ever again--i def recommend goign this route if you can.

Interesting, I'll have to check it out

For what its worth, we got my NICA kid a ZWIFT trainer last year. I set it up with an 8 speed cassette and one of my old 90’s mountain bikes (practically a road bike 🤣) and she figured out how to use it without the gearing being a hindrance.

Not sure how she has it setup, maybe that shifting setup mentioned above, but if the gearing was an issue and she was running out of gears she would have told me….to fix it…

Since I am also a 58 things come up in my browsing around on marketplace.

This will have to work for now. I do think I need a spacer for the 8sp cassette. I didn't see one on the wheel I took it off of, but there is some play when I put on the trainer free hub. What do I need to buy?
