WTB: 1up or Thule T2 Pro rack

I'm looking to grab a new rack w/ expandable capacity. I only need to carry 3 bikes at the moment so 1up is the preference w/ Thule as #2, but I'll take just about anything expandable at the right price (2" hitch only).

LMK if you've got something up for grabs!

It’s crazy how expensive racks are. Seems like they’re still Covid pricing. I have a 1up single bike that I use 95% of the time but I need a 4 bike rack. So I’ve been looking around and the 1ups are close to $1400. Same with Thule. I couldn’t do it.

I ended up buying a Kuat Transfer 3 bike and an add on for ~750. I know the 1up is better but for how much I’ll actually be carrying 4 bikes, it made sense for me.

You can get a Kuat Transfer 2 bike and the 1 bike add on for probably ~ $6XX.

Thanks, trying to go used due to the sizeable investment vs. time spent carrying 4 bikes. But if I go new I'll swing by and see if you still have it.

Yeah, it is a bit crazy. I also picked up 3 bags of groceries for $135 dollars yesterday, so I don't think we have a sane frame of reference for anything these days....

I didn't know the Kuat Transfer 3 had an add-on option, I'll look into it a bit more. What are your impressions with 4 bikes loaded? It seems like it would be a bit flimsy. Despite that, I have a v1 Sherpa and it's been flawless so I trust the brand.

Sounds good...we can also get the Kuat pretty quickly as well if that is the direction you choose to go.

Wound up finding a Thule T2 first gen w/ 2 bike add-on (the 4th tray is in the back of my car) for a steal on Facebook. It's essentially brand new, it was sitting in their garage for a while because it didn't work with their vehicle.

It's lacking in the bells and whistles, but it's certainly suitable for what I need. Plus it was less than I can get the Kuat Transfer 3 for, and has a higher weight capacity. The Mrs has a tank of a cruiser (1970s Schwinn Breeze) that comes in at 40lbs, which was the limit for the Kuat. So, we'll be all set for that one time we take a road trip with 4 bikes!

I finally put this together. Definitely more pieces than I thought it would be so it took over an hour.

But for the price, and compared to other racks that cost close to twice as much this thing seems pretty solid. No frills, but it’ll hold 4 bikes without a problem.

I wound up grabbing the single version since I had an REI coupon code to use. I opened the box and had the same though about too many pieces. I moved on to another project for the day but will get it together one day this week.
