Edumacate me. ERD?Depth is not a measurement of ERD, especially if eyelets are involved.
Answer is, "yes you can do it, no it's probably not going to last (especially if you're replacing a rim from riding damage)."
Edumacate me. ERD?
Need to know the rim model to get the ERD from the manufacturer website. What year Turbine and what Stan's rim? MK4 is the version, most models have MK4...you didn't even suggest if it's 27.5" or 29"...or 26"!?!?!Looking to lace up my RaceFace Vault hub to a new rim.
Original rim is the Raceface Turbine / depth = 20mm
Replacement rim is a Stans MK4 / depth = 18.9mm
Both have the same 3mm offset. Can I get away with using the original spokes or will they be too short?
I can build a wheel if I have the correct parts. Have done it a dozen times with great success.Need to know the rim model to get the ERD from the manufacturer website. For the RF Turbine 2024 the specs are somewhat confusing, they show two different ERDs for font and rear, with the 29" ERD at 600mm for the rear and 604 for the front and the 27.5" ERD at 562 for the rear and 566 for the front. The spec sheet does mention a confusing 'ERD with 2mm nipple head'...also they do not appear to have an offset.
For the Stan's assuming it's a Flow MK4 or Arch MK4 (the rims that match you 18.8 dept)
Flow MK4
29" ERD is 600mm with a 3mm offset
27.5" ERD is 561mm with a 3mm offset
26" is 536mm with a 3mm offset
Arch MK4
29" ERD is 600mm with a 2.5mm offset
27.5" ERD is 561mm with a 2.5mm offset
26" is 536mm with a 2.5mm offset
So, after all this bike nerding I would say go see your LBS if you don't know what you're doing...
While Stan's info was easy to access RF somewhat makes it difficult to find the right info, they used to have full spec sheets available on their support page, now the say to drop them an e-mail but never answer if you write to them...you have the wheel in your hands so you obviously are in the best position to determine if it's going to work or not.I can build a wheel if I have the correct parts. ERD on the Turbine and the MK4 (29er/rear) appear the same. I know for a fact the offset is 3mm on the Turbine rim so that is also the same as the Stans. Looks like I can do a simple rim swap, which is the easiest type of wheel build and what I was hoping for.
Thanks for answering my question!
Just use this next time, with your experience building wheels I'm surprised to you haven't heard of ERD. Pretty much fundamentals of wheel building. Still, you need the full specs of the components to use a spoke length calculator. I personally prefer to use the DT Swiss one https://spokes-calculator.dtswiss.com/en/ but again I mostly use DT Swiss Rims, Hubs and Spokes.Just use this next time, with your experience building wheels I'm surprised to you haven't heard of ERD.
