Which threadlocker for sram dub crankset install?

Hey Folks

Would appreciate some bike maintenance wisdom on which loctite to use (if any) to install sram dub crankset. SRAM says "medium" so I am thinking 242 or 243, but the latter seems to have oil resistance.

Also, the preload ring to keep spindle from moving laterally does not seem to lock into position when turning in BB direction...with the little 2mm screw loose the adjuster keeps turning round and round...is the adjuster broken or did I install incorrectly?

Thanks!

yea i also dont put any loctite on cranks, they are torqued plenty tight enough that the preload will hold them.

I got one of these for both of the sram cranks I have:

there are some knock offs too. Just make sure it has the dub ring with it as the standard was 30mm.

I didnt use any thread locker on the axle threads. Like @goldsbar noted, sram cranks are notorious for being hard to get off

Wait until you have to remove those cranks. I've never put so much strength into removing a bike part. Similar to lug nuts. No Loctite required. I've heard the plastic preload ring is easy to strip.
Lowes has a torque wrench with a long handle at half price that I bought yesterday...makes it easy to remove crankset. I hope it will also lead to more consistent centerlock rotor installation so I don't need to mess with the brake alignment after...

Just double check that you can remove bolts with it, some torque wrenches are tighten only

There's absolutely no reason to ever remove a bolt with a torque wrench.

while in theory you are correct, in practice there are plenty, especially working on heavy equipment in tight spaces or remote locations. Some torque wrenchs are ok with being used beyond their ability to measure and some (ok, probably most) aren't.
