quite familiar with the other end. the circled area seems to be purpose built for something. the sharp prongs, the rounded cutout? I know I'll feel stupid when I hear it but for the life of me I can't figure out what that end is for.

aha. seems like their intention. I agree its next to worthless. in that situation I'm removing the pads and pushing the pistons back with a tire lever anyway. BUT at least this makes sense!
