Anyone have a favorite spot/site for legal camping IN Wharton SF that has good trail side access? I did this a few years back but really cannot remember where I camped out. Thanks in advance.

Wharton's primitive campsites reopen 6/1/21.

Godfrey's Bridge and Hawkins Bridge campsites are easy to access by vehicle. Alongside the Wading River. And a several mile pedal to the MTB loop, using the gravel road called the Washington Turnpike or any of the numerous sand roads.

The Lower Forge site is closer to the MTB loop. But that area has some of the deepest sand around. The Mullica River site is nice, and has a well/waterpump. but you'll hit sugar sand when riding near Quaker Bridge.

I wouldn't recommend Buttonwood. Its a short distance from CR 542 and its road noise.

Thanks. I did notice that the camping does not open until 6/1. Was hopeful to campout next week with a buddy and his kids next week. Any primitive social campsites or private campgrounds suitable for van & tent camping near the trails. Appreciate the insights!

The state has a limited amount of cabins and improved campsites around Wharton's Atsion Lake on rt. 206. https://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks/wharton.html

There is a commercial campground on the Wading River by Godfreys Bridge. Several miles east on the Washington Tprk. from the MTB loop. https://www.wadingpines.com

I need to mention Micks at this point. Because Micks. https://www.mickscanoerental.com

Hammonton is nice and a short drive away. Several microbreweries, a lot of pizzerias, and a few notable taco trucks. Farmer Johns in Nesco is good for a quick sandwich.

I booked the Lower Forge site for a June weekend on https://www.njportal.com/DEP/NJOutdoors/Park/Details?locationId=19, no problem, but tried to book it for May and there are no sites opened at all during the whole month, even a Tuesday night, are the State Park campgrounds closed through May or is it possible every site on every day at Lower Forge is booked solid? The latter makes no sense to me, maybe during July or August but May?

Any thoughts anyone?

EDIT: Never mind, I just saw you mentioned in a previous post primitive camping opens up on 6/1, that kinda blows.
