Went on my first legit trail ride today

Took my new bike (Salsa Timberjack 27.5+) out for the first time today. It was the first time I've ever ridden a mountain bike other than up and down my cul de sac and across my lawn a bit.

I live in Bridgewater and there is a small grouping of trails called Middlebrook Trail between Washington Valley Road and Mountaintop Road. Very little in the way of elevation changes but lots of turns, roots, several bridges, and a stream or two. And today LOTS of mud. https://parks.bridgewaternj.gov/trails/ There was also a thread on it here a while ago. https://www.mtbnj.com/forum/threads/middlebrook-trail-system.10351/

I didn't ride long but it was a good first day in the saddle. Likely a bit above my pay grade for a first ride and I'm thinking it would have been smarter to not go along but it's in the books now. I didn't fall but did get stuck in quicksand type mud at one point and had to dismount. I also opted to walk over fallen trees and thru streams rather than ride.

Pics are from my driveway upon returning home.
