Wayway Jungle or Ringwood Thurs 7/3

With high humidity and temps in the upper 80s, the rain would be a pleasant welcome. I say, rain or shine, we go for it. :getsome:😀

I am 100% riding, no matter the weather. I will check this site at 4pm top see who's up for it and then we can decide where to meet. Right now I'm leaning toward Ringwood. All 3 places are with 20 min of each other so I'm down for anything - maybe even a Skyline shuttle?

As I lay on the ground in the fetal position, cowering under the trees and drenched in rain, I ponder if this is the dumbest decision I've ever made. And then the lightning starts slamming all around me - one less than 100 yrds - that's when I knew that, yes, this was the dumbest descision I've ever made.

LOL- funny stuff! I rode Chimney Rock yesterday at 5:30, just got out before the heavy rain but lightning was all around. One big strike was not too far back in the woods exactly where I was a few minutes earlier. Scary stuff so I hi-tailed it outta there since I had a lightning rod of a bike on top of my car. Glad you got out ok, intense storm.

usually when you see those dark, black clouds approaching during the late afternoon in the summertime, they are filled with thunder and lightning...
I also saw lightning hit the ground in front of me years ago and it changed me - hopefully you will learn from your experience. I know I did.
Glad you're ok !

As a kid, I loved watching lightning storms. As a younger adult, I was in Mexico City outside a cathedral when a lightning bolt struck the bell tower directly above me! Scared the BeJesus out of me and now have a profound appreciation for what Mother Nature can throw at us. I still love lightning storms but stay inside!!

I was actually at trail maintenance last night. It started to sprinkle but we kept working. Then the verizon warning blasted on our phones, and Art said "2 more buckets!''. I put on my helmet and pack on while Art filled the last 2 buckets. I tamped and he packed tools. On our bikes in 2 minutes.

It was so dark that I could see the fireflies light up as I rode out. It started to rain hard. Oh the taste of sweet rain mixing with sweat as it rolled down into my mouth. I was soaked by the time I got to duck pond loop, but it felt good. Oh, and there was lightning and hail too. Dodged another one! 😀 ... and you will love this turn tweak!

Ellen, did you get caught in the rain last Thursday also? I saw you guys on the new white (I was the guy who didn't weight the front wheel enough, dragged a pedal and shit-whipped himself into the woods right in front of you). By the time I got the bike packed up it was pissing rain.

I was almost at the top of the red trail in Jungle when the thunder started. By the time I made it down to the white loop it was full on flashing and cracking all around me. The only way I was going to get to the truck quickly was if I cut across the open field (terrible idea). I was scared shitless at this point and pondering if I could ride along the edge, close to the trees - that's when a bolt crashed down no more than 100yrds from me. I literally jumped into the woods, threw my bike/lightning rod 20 ft away and huddled on the floor. :cry:I even called my wife to tell her I loved her and where I was, in case she needs to call the police. LOL😱😀 I laugh now but that was probably the only time in my life I was truly scared to death. Rain passed after 20 minutes and I rode my sorry, drenched, ass back to the truck. 😱
