Wawayanda, Sunday May 6 (My First Race)

Fred - big f'ing job man! 18th is awesome.

ChrisG - hope everything's all good.

Fred and Brett, it was awesome meeting both of you guys, and a good race for sure! I think you hit it dead on with the description, it was intense. Not wanting sandbag beginner it was my first race doing sport, and let me tell you those guys can move. I also hear ya with Brett just being a little too chipper, here I am at one point struggling through a rock garden and I look over to see Brett casually walking through the woods with his bike on his shoulder.

I posted my results up on motionbased,

Races are also evil, I'm now sitting on my computer with an XTR front derailleur in my shopping cart. Do I really need to drop a hundo on a fd, nope, but boy do I want to after the terrible performance my LX was giving me today.

Also, I need to drink less beer....

Heythorp, I think I almost hit you with my car today, sorry about that! But it's also usually not a good idea to ride your bike in the middle of the road 😉

Can't wait for the next race!

I did my first race ever there, in beginner class way back in I guess it had to be 96 or 97...... and the funny thing about it is I cannot remember 1 single thing about wawayanda state park because they stopped running races there for a while. you guys did the right thing by going right to sport class..... because 1 lap of any of these races is a blur

Thanks all!

I slept for a few hours and now im back at work. My body hates me right now. I dont know if its the crazy change in temp. or the fact i beat the piss outta my body for two good hours. Im all congested and feel like im getting a cold. ew.

Whens the next race?!

Treat your body right. You have beat yourself down pretty hard today.

This is a great way to get yourself sick.

Congrats on a solid effort today.

After really taxing efforts your body's immune system is actually suppressed a bit.

I dont know how you do it Fred. I'm good for nothing but sleep after my night shift. I'd be using my bars as a pillow.

Nice job! You will gain tons of speed with racing, and that in turn will make trail riding much more enjoyable.

The course was definitely in mint shape, I could hear my spokes moving around like crazy on those rocks.

Bonus: before hitting the rock-garden section, after the hair-pin turn off of the fire-road, was the biggest bear I've ever seen. 10 yards away tops. At that spot the singletrack is quite smooth so I wasn't making much noise cruising through it. I heard crunching sounds on my right, turned my head and there it was, staring right at me as I was passing by; like cows watching the train pass, I could see its head following me. My third lap was probably the fastest, and in the fourth I was looking everywhere at that same spot. Cleaned those rock gardens like I never have before 😉 Amazing!

Kudos to everyone who was out there, racing or cheering us on.

four laps? four laps?! you should have your head examined. jeez. NICE JOB!

I wish i had the energy to take in what was going on around me. I was to focused on turning the pedals.

The course was in great shape. Thanks to all those who made it happen.

Here's my horrible truth:

I was pretty happy with my lap times, I managed to stay pretty consistent and rode nearly everything, 'cept for the hill near the pond right before the white trail. I had a couple of goals written on my top tube and I managed to achieve 3 of them: Eat 2 gel packs per lap, finish a 72 oz. camelback, and stay upright and mechanical free. I think I needed more top end, I ran 32X18 and I was getting dropped on the flats, though it was pretty good for the technical stuff. Non-the-less it's all 27 speeds for me this weekend at French Creek. I'll race the singlespeed for the H2H series, and gears for the MASS races.
1st. Lap 38:51
2nd. Lap 37:51
3rd. Lap 39:48
Maurice, four laps and I would've died.
