Washington Valley Rd, - Water Tower Access Road - Martinsville, NJ - history/abandoned/future trail?

Hi all this is my first post! I was curious if anyone has ever checked out the trail that appears to start as an old grass driveway entrance which leads to a house foundation buried in the woods. It starts as a double with tire tracks and moves on to a single track for the rest before turning into a paved access road to a double water tower. When you ride that down to Washington Valley Rd there is a gate blocking vehicle access that says "No Trespassing".

I was just curious if anyone here ever hiked or biked it and do you know any of the history of this trail. There was an expired deer culling sign once you get to the single track. I originally hiked it in April 2024 when it wasn't all overgrown. All told it looks to only be a 2 mile loop which includes the ride back on Washington Valley Rd to the beginning again...so pretty short. Not sure if anyone would want to put forth the effort to make it an official trail but someone has blazed the trees with some white trail markers and someone's been clearing fallen small trees, etc.

I just went to check it again with my bike...taking the blue exterior past Crim Road and then once in the grass fields I took the grass fire road up to Washington Valley Rd....then make your way east and a little ways up is the entrance to where I'm talking about. You'll see the grass driveway and green acres sign next to it. (it was severely overgrown at the beginning but was relatively clear at the single track, but with a few thin trees down I ended up getting a branch in my derailer and it broke off completely...turned around and coasted back down and luckily had my wife pick me up 🙂 So now the bike is in the shop and I won't be venturing out on that trail until the season changes.

I believe I looked into this plot of land many years ago. I think it's called the Second Watchung Mountain Range or something, and this specifically is managed by the county just like WVP.

I reached out to the land manager at the time, who said more or less nothing is going to happen with that plot. I think it's too close to people's houses or something like this.

@Kirt may know more. It's been like 10+ years since I looked into this at all.
