Vermont beers

Fourth Party
My wife is going up to Vermont for the weekend and she offered to grab some beers. Is there anything up there that's readily available at stores that's worth a purchase? I've had HT, and while its good, I don't want her wasting time searching for it. Any other suggestions for tasty beers?she will be in the Burlington area.

Anything Hill Farmstead, though it's an hour from Burlington. They have a new release out of Society &Solitude

The wisdom is that VT gas stations just plain have great beers.
It's pretty much true.
She should also hit co-ops which stock the local goods, and definitely the Beverage Warehouse in Winooski.

Things you can probably find in the wild:
Burlington Beer Company (BBCO): pretty much anything by them gonna be good.
Lawsons like Mitch said. Sip is your winner, but the session stuff ain't no slouch.
Lush: all their DIPAs. They release random stuff, so anything that says IPA.
Upper Pass: in order of preference: Cloud Drop, Waimea Waves, First Drop.
14th Star Tribute IPA

Breweries to hit:
BBCO- I think pretty much always has cans
Foam - they have releases
Four Quarters - may have cans
Green Empire - this is a wild card. They tiny, may not even be open, but they brew good stuff.

Horay beer!

Foam. No cans
Thats a damn lie. 😉

Foley brothers in Brandon, VT. They are about an hour from Burlington, but it really won't add any time to the trip home. I usually so there on my way back from Burlington. They have some really good stuff. All the other beers mentioned are really good as well.

Lawson’s has broader distribution now, he contracts out at Two Roads in Connecticut.
I think the Heady has jumped the shark a little, not as good as it used to be. He also needs to start brewing more things other than 6 varieties of IPAs. When he does something different (Petite Mutant, Luscious), it usually turns out pretty good.

Foam is awesome, but you have to be into sours. Have your wife also grab you some Hermitt Thrush, any variety, if your into sours.
Foley Brothers and Fiddlehead are my 2 Favs. Fiddlehead in Shelburne always has some good stuff growler fill only. If you can catch a Brett Buried Alive, get a couple.
I like Hillfarm, but they’re 2hrs away from Burlington, and you’ll have to sit on line with 200 hipsters waiting for your number to come up.

Drink the sip sooner than later. it is much better when it is fresh! Also so happy to see that Heady didn't make the list, it was so good at some point, but now there are a bunch of much better beers out there.

(eventhough I agree with you)

It’s so true. I don’t know if he’s getting the hops from somewhere else, or something changed in the process, but it’s not as good as it once was. Everyone else has also caught up, I’ll take Second Fiddle over Heady any day. Also, Lawsons Sip used to be better too, if anyone remembers from like 10yrs back, when he was making it in smaller batches on the farm. Hillfarm also has so much more variety, and takes way more chances than Alchemist. Same with Foley and Fiddlehead. They’re not afraid to take a few chances every now and then. The Alchemist has a line to the parking lot on most days, I don’t think that Kimmich wants to mess with that, so he doesn’t stretch that often.
