Under New Management: Tri-State MTB

I've just recently taken over the "Organizer" role for the Tri-State MTB Meetup Group and am looking to post up rides in various parks within the.....well.....you can figure it out.

The past Organizer and Event Organizers did a great job of promoting trails within Central and Southern NJ and I hope they will continue to do this. My goal is the spread this out to Northern NJ, NE PA, and Southern NY.

I may need some assistance with ride leads in those parks that I'm not familiar with (NE PA, Southern NY, & some N. New Jersey). Please shoot me a PM if you would be open to leading a ride or two at some point within the following parks

New Jersey:
  • Jungle Habitat
  • Ringwood (I kinda know it, but not 100%)

NE PA:
  • Lackawanna State Park
  • Moosic
  • Mountain Top
  • Moon Lake
  • Open to other suggestions

New York:
  • Blue Mountain
  • Open to other suggestions

Thanks for looking.....

this brings up a good point to include, what pace/skill level ride are you looking at?

In theory, this would fall in the large "Intermediate" category, but may be a bit more specific depending on the park. Obviously, some of these northern parks may be a bit more advanced for a newer rider or one that may not have the experience riding rockier terrain.

The whole point is to get people riding parks that they typically don't. Someone may have that perfect storm where the family is away and/or no work that day allowing them the flexibility to try somewhere new without restraints. "hmmmm....wife and kids are at the in-laws all day and there is a ride at Allamuchy. I've always wanted to go, but don't know the park well enough to just wing it. I'll jump on this ride because Reggie is super cool and likes beer".

Each event will outline expectations so there are no questions of where someone's skill/fitness level needs to be at. For anyone that has joined me in past group rides, you can attest that I'm all about the experience for ALL and not trying to capture my next PR.

"Everyone have fun tonight.....Everyone Wang Chung tonight".

This has been my goal in organizing group rides here on MTBNJ, get folks out to different parks on a social ride. It's all about getting comfortable at a new place and meeting new people.
I will say that it's good to be prepared with leaders who can split up a large group to tailor a pace to the needs of the riders. Ideally keeping groups at no greater then 15 mtbers, this seems to allow for better flow.

Unfortunately with Covid, and the mixed attitudes towards distancing I've held off on organizing large group rides for now.

I'd be willing to help with meet up rides assuming it's smaller numbers. I know Jungle and can lead there. 😀

It's funny what different people's definition of "tri-state" is. To me, our Tri-State area is NY/NJ/CT. But for riding purposes, PA makes more sense. I always enjoy leading and riding in group rides but i rarely have the availability and time commitment required for them. If the stars ever align, i can lead a bunch of places. Here are my quad-state recommendations that weren't mentioned:

Southern NY:
Sterling
Stewart
Sprain

Long Island: (i know it's not another state but it might as well be) https://climbonline.org/2014j/
Cathedral Pines
Stillwell/Greenbelt/Trailview/Mannetto Hills/Bethpage (link multiple parks for big mileage)
Rocky Point
Glacier Ridge
Edgewood

NJ:
Allamuchy (any of the 3 parks)
Allaire

PA (Lehigh Valley):
South Mtn Emmaus
Salisbury/Walking Purchase Park
Trexler

SW CT:
Trumbull/Pequonnock River Valley State Park/Indian Ledge Park
Mianus River Park

Congrats @Reggie, no doubt riding and hanging with you is fun! So I have to ask, since you ride a rigid single speed, will there be single speed specific events?
