Tubeless ready?

The tire will have marking that will indicate tubeless ready... like TLR
Or are you asking if there is a way to know if the tire was set up tubeless?

OP wants to know about the rim.

I'm not sure we worry about the rim on a mtb being specifically designed.
So many have been set up tubeless, before there was a designation.
if there aren't any labels, and you really want to know, i guess there would be a shoulder creating a tighter fit for the tire at the edge?

You don't necessarily have to take the tire off to check. You can deflate the tube, pop the bead in 1 place and push the tire in so you cna get a look at the valley of the rim. if its a single wall rim with exposed spoke nipples covered by a rubber rim strip, its a definite no-go. If its a double wall rim with no exposed nipples (but there may a simple rim strip covering the nipple access holes), then you're good to go.

If you need to physically dismount a bead when the tire is flat, there's a good chance the rim is tubeless.

Running a not-tubeless rim tubeless, even if you can get it to seal, is a Bad Idea (tm) if you value reliability.
