Truck bed bike rack

Got a new truck with a longer bed. Don't really want to use the tailgate pad. Anyone have any good DIY options for in bed wheel on travel?

JDurk's solution is a great deal, I'd buy both if in your shoes - have seen them on his truck and they work great. Before I went with a pad (love it btw), I made a rack with pvc that fit the bill for 3-4 bikes. Have also used some janky wooden jawns in the past too. These days its either a oneup in the receiver or a pad though.

These are all good options. I'll add the obvious one for single bike. Laying it on its side with drive side up. I have an added feature in my bed that helps though which is a heavy rubber mat. I've had the same one for 15 years which was bought for a GM but with some selective cutting fits my Ram. Its good in general for keeping lots of stuff from sliding.

Here's one I found quick to give you the thought. Specs on the below example call it 3/8" thick. Mine is thick like this

this is the way, if your already planning a tailgate pad for multi-bike transport just toss it in the bed driveside up, its safe from rear end collisions and cant fall over if something happens to the rack, plus it doesnt cost any extra.

I'd part with just 1 for $50. 1 has a Thule lock on the arm mechanism, 1 doesn't. You pick.
Guessing it can lock to the rear wheel with the front tire towards the cab, like in the link pics? Seems like a lot of videos have the it holding the front tire

If it's a long bed, by the front tire works best. It also works with short beds by clamping the rear tire and turning the bars to make it fit, just like the pictures. I was able to use this in my '16 Tacoma long bed (6') with the front tire clamped.

Ok. Yea it's a 6.5' so I'll need to turn the front tire slightly. I'll take one. Have venmo?

My 5” tired fat bike doesn’t fit laying down drive side up. So I do the motorcycle tie-down setup with bike standing vertical, diagonally in the bed, Handle bars strapped to the bed tie-downs.

Yea, I know this is an option, but I want quick. That's why I like the pad, but then I'm too lazy to take on/off

bummer, all the bikes i have tried fit fine, but i dont think i have done anything bigger than a large, kind of amazing how big bikes have gotten
Very true, old school, pre2015, can fit a medium 29r bike in the back seat with the front wheel off. Newer can only fit a mullet setup with some creative adjustments to the front passenger seat. The meater tires we're all running now also adds to the largeness
