where: meet me at George Washington bridge (pedestrian cossing gate) either on NJ/NY side. or better yet stand at the center span of bridge(see time above)

route: i will be riding from clifton to GW bridge (crossing into city) this is where we meet up then "we" (if there's any bikers that would like to joining this rides) from there continue to weschester county's rail trail called:north/south county trailway-putnam trailway (i rode here before).
after completing first section in new york side, then continue to a town called brewster.from there will continue rode into danbury (CT) then cranking down to norwalk (CT) from norwalk crankin' back to new york, then finally cossing back to new jersey via GW bridge again.(on connecticut teritory,i will have to find/navigate the route a little bit coz i'ved never rode there bfore,so..what we might encounter is.possible of wrong turn, wrong way,all kind of wrong could possibly happening)

this is first section of route that i took last year: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/81447900 (but only from GW to putnam county trails part)

mileage: approximately over 170 miles maybe less/more,with 14mph constantly finishing time will be around 14 hrs or more depending on your fitnes level and nature issue such as: windy, hilly terrain, bonking, bailed, forget bringing tire and tubes spare,etc...

pace from slow 5mph-140mph (no race pace)

what: what bike? road bike offcourse.but if you insist bringing your MTB,.then you're on your own.

why: coz you're nutz!!

how: i don't know,i haven't ride it yet.

who: for peoples who love or have passion for cycling and also adventurer wannabe and nuts like myself.
hopefully there's another crazy bikers beside me will join this rides (altho i'm 99% doubt it:popcorn:) so,..prove me wrong folks come if you have one day free pass from your spouse (for married folks) and for single..what the heck are you're doing, come out and rides your friggin' bikes already!!

purpose: everything that we do it has purpose in our lives, and this is one of them.
to fill up stories in our memory book of life and fill those blank pages.so,.when we grow much older and wiser we have something to talk/tell and reminds about.coz, life is too short to waste without doing something stupid and crazy in positive way.

normaly,i like riding solo.
but,.once in a while i like riding with another company as well, and this is the time i like to have one or two,or three.....🙂
(let's see if anyone will bite)

No Go if rain

disclaimer:by agreeing joining this rides you're assuming your own risk geting hit by vehicles, animals or other hazordous objects on the roads and from the sky (like getting hit with meteor or even worse by bird poo) and you're responsible for yourself (bring your own money, tools, etc)and also I (liong71er) will not get sued if anything goes wrong,in plain word: you're are subject to responsible for your own doing/error.

hey,jim!
are you serious? i'm very slow cyclist..i'm like a torquise and you're like a...jim
for god sake!!😀
if you can make it,.i'll be honored to have you join me.

With 2 people we'll be able to go faster. Me and Joe averaged just under 18mph during the Longest Day but that was 99% flat.

Does it start/finish in the same spot?

I may be able to talk Joe into coming as well. Then we can knock this out in a few hours 😀

-Jim.

No excuses, bud. Take the Path from Hoboken to WTC and I will lend you my Lemond (53cm - medium). Though I may not be able to partake in this epic journey, at least I can say that my bike did.

GW Heads Up

I am not sure if you are planing on driving or riding across the GW Bridge.
If you are riding I would double check to make sure that the bike path is open at 4am.
I think that it might be closed from midnight-6am.

The sign posted says 6am (until midnight), but I have been up there on weekdays before 6am and it has been open, with people crossing. Makes me wonder if they actually close it.

right now i wish i had a road bike 🙁 i hate being poor.
sorry,man.
i only got one road bike.if you can borrow from someone, you're welcome to join us.

6 months ago,.when i reached there at 5:15 it was wide open.

On Jun 19, 2010, I was there around 4:30am, and it was closed. I knew this might be the case, so I had taken my car. I had to cross over the bridge and park in Manhattan to start my ride. I know of 1 other case of someone who posted on this board before then, where he was coming back from NYC after midnight and found the gate closed and had to crawl underneath and the security guys started to chase him.

It is possible they are not bothering with closing the gate these days. If I am up at a weird time this week (which has been known to happen), I will go check when I go out for my ice cream run.

One other option, if it is closed is you can take one of those ghetto buses over the bridge for $1. I'm sure at that hour, they will let you .. since the buses aren't crowded, esp if you give them another buck.

I wish I could do this ride with you Liong. My Sundays never opened up for me much this year unfortunately.

yes, please if you can check to see..if they open at 4am.if no..i will have to moved the time to 6am.
fyi..i can ride on monday too.jimmy, coz my off day is on monday.anytime you wanna ride just pm me.

Must be hit or miss as I have tried crossing ~1AM and found it closed.

Maybe they open it up around 5am when the guard gets there?

One way I have gotten around this is to drive up to Tallman State Park then start there instead. By the time I ride down to GWB, the gate is open.

I guess you could also do the loop in the opposite direction, but I'd rather be going through the Bronx in the AM, then PM when you are all tired and the gangsta's are ready to jump you.

Best wishes to those doing the Tri-State Bike Tour this weekend. Wish I could join. Keep me posted on events in the future. The GW bridge is hit or miss b/c I've gotten across at times but also gotten stuck when it was closed. I do think it has a lot to do with when the guard gets there. The Tallman State Park route is a good option too. Have fun man.
