A large map kiosk showing the Wharton Forest bicycle trails was setup at the trail head on Memorial Day weekend.

One map is a detailed view of the inner red, white and blue bicycle trails (Teaberry, Oak Hill, Huckleberry & FireTower trails). The second map provides the big picture of the Penn Branch bicycle trail.
The kiosk includes the very cool tag, ...with volunteer help from members of the Jersey Off Road Bicycle Association. 🙂

3rd kiosk, mileage markers, fallen trees & more

The third map kiosk (with a *you are here* arrow 😕), to be located at the approximate halfway point of the 19+ mile Penn Branch Trail is scheduled for an autumn deployment.

This past month, a group of local Explorer Scouts designed, created and deployed mileage signs around the Penn Branch Trail. A big thanks to them for riding around the PBT in the summertime heat while carrying those big wooden signs, hammers and nails.

Work is progressing on firming up two previous alternate routes that will eliminate some sand road sections. Look for the finished route in 2011 (weather permitting).

The extreme weather has been taking down a lot of trees. We’ve been trying to stay ahead of it on the Huckleberry Trail and everything south of it. But (in a move that some will applaud and make others groan) we’re leaving a lot of the fallen trees in place on the PBT (north of the Huckleberry Trail) to provide some extra log-over fun. 😎 Big thanks to Larry Goats II, Rich Young, Rick Archer, Nikky Erickson, Mark Aviles, Mark Rothmel and John Williams for grabbing the saw and clearing the blowdowns. Kudos to John Williams for buying a most excellent 2 person trail saw. (A lot of this work couldn’t have been done without it.)
