March 5, 1770, British Army soldiers killed five male civilians and injured six others in Boston,
outside of the Customs House. It is said that the colonists protested the occupation of their city
by British troops and began throwing snowballs and other small objects at them.
Private Hugh Montgomery was hit, causing him to fire his musket at the crowd. Moments later,
the other British soldiers followed suit. Those killed were Crispus Attucks, Patrick Carr, Samuel Gray,
Samuel Maverick, and James Caldwell. This event would become known forever as the Boston Massacre.
