To Paint or Not to Paint

Just grabbed this 2000 GT Backwoods for $40. I stripped off everything, but it came with a bunch of rusty parts except for rear wheel & handlebar. I can't decide if I want to strip & paint it or just leave it be, so before I go and pull the BB & heaset cups, I thought I would seek your expert opinions. It has a bunch of dings and some rust. My new Milwaukee heat gun is on the way via mail order, so I think I'm leaning toward blasting it.

BTW, I love my Park work stand. It's PCS-9, the cheapest one, but it just works highly recommended. Thanks for all your suggestions.

I was actually wanting to know what you thought of the current paint job vs painting it some other color, because I'm vain like that. Already did my research on how to strip & paint. The polishing idea is interesting, but don't you have to keep polishing it? Too much maintenance.

do a pro job, strip and paint it, and document it along the way with step by step instructions haha cause I want to paint one of my frames too ;)

I'd say repaint for sure. I personally don't dig the graphics on the newer GT's.

Strip, polish then clear and get a repro GT wing sticker set to give that chrome cruiser look. Would look tops with some anno blue parts especially hoops:

Or go with a euro white out:

BTW, what is that red frame in the background. US BB and larger looking triangle? Old style BMX cruiser?

Is that a 26" cruiser?! I like the old school wing logo.

Red frame, bmx cruiser? I wish. It's a Walmart type Murray. I was gonna throw it away, but if anyone wants it they can have for free. I think I have all the parts except wheels and the stem.

I have a polished heckler for over 11 years now and maybe put Mothers polish to it 3 times over that period and it still shines up beautifully. Polished is absolutely the best finish you can have. Maintenance is IMO the easiest and longest lasting period.

walmart murray : going into trash
old raleigh: will become fixie
specialized expedition: will become rigid ss
gt: probably will try it out as 69er with rigid 29" fork

yup, 26" cruiser. GT had some really cool stuff back then and the wing logo has a nice timeless feel to it. Back then wings and lightening bolts where the shit.
