Tire question

Hey guys got a strange one for you and before I start throwing money into it I figured maybe one of you has had a similar experience.
My friend just just me his older Gary Fisher 29er to fix up for his kid. The main problem he keeps having and I saw it myself is occasionally the front tire will pop off the rim while cornering and the inner tube will completely blow out the side...
Any thoughts other than FIRE>>>>

This would be my guess.

Tire is a 29X2.1 and the rim is pretty narrow.. I wil take the tire off and look for any type of crack

No rim damage that i can find and they are narrow I measured them at 17.5mm ID

I have some XR2 that came off my sons Marlin I am going to throw on to try it out but were they popped off at random. it may be fine until its not...

Pressure too low? Too many Gs on the skid pad?

Is it possible the tube if for a wider tire and the pressure is too high?

Didnt older rim's have a different profile at the bead? Perhaps it's not comparable with modern tires.

That's my thinking too. Unless there's maybe too much rim tape or some hidden damage on the rim.
