Fox News is now just broadcasting from the front of the building. Thankfully they haven't bugged me for a quote yet but they have tagged a few of my coworkers. Seriously, do people not understand that we just provide the medium for people to trade the baseball cards? It's not like we buy and sell shit. Plus we're just serfs anyway.
Woke up at like 4:something and hit snooze a few times. My daughter rolled over and gave me a hug and I didn't feel like getting out of bed, but I did anyway. She is fast becoming really fun and cute and a massive PITA at the same time. I know it's going to cause my wife an incredible amount of stress over the next 10-15 years but there's not much I can do about that. For better or worse, I think she's developing my sense of humor. At night I make up these ludicrous stories using her stuffed animals before bed. She laughs so uncontrollably it makes all of us laugh. Really fun times. The kid is nuts.
Ok, my PR agent told me to add a family story today to help my Dao Index. Hope that was good for you all.
Finally got into the kitchen at like 4:50 and managed to get out the door at about 5:01, but not before sticking a few pins in my voodoo dolls, a fat one (Graveyard Bill) and a thin one (Factory Rob). I guess I should make one for Utah too, but I'm going to need more straw. Or a refrigerator. Shit, I'm going to have to do more feel-good stories tomorrow if I keep writing like this.
Anyway, I mounted the light the night before. I turn it on and it stays on for like a minute. So I go downstairs and get the other battery because I bought the GeoMan 2-set, and this one seems to work. I grab the backup P-Tec handlebar light just in case.
Sure enough, a mile later, the battery dies. And the P-Tec battery is dead too. Fuck it, I'll ride in the dark.
Anyway, I guess these GeoMan batteries hold a charge for like 2 days? I charged them maybe 2-3 weeks ago. They can't be top of the line if they lose all of their juice by then. I suspect that the next time I go to use them I'm going to have the same problem, even if the battery was charged the night before. Why do lights have to be such a quagmire? It's fucking light. Pretty basic stuff, really. I'm just going to tape a Maglite to my top tube.
I rode in the dark for like 20 minutes, then the sun came up, I ate an energy bar, and just tooled around for 1:20 total. Did the long swamp loop, the one I do my short TT on, and just rode today. It was a nice morning out there. I'm going to be entirely in the dark soon, so this is life for the time being.
No real plan this week, or for the month of August for that matter. I'll race on weekends, then start the CX plan come September, laying it out to run through Horseshoe in December. We're co-promoting Horseshoe this year, probably a bit more involved than last year, though I'm not sure. I kicked around the idea of a CX race of our own but Jim asked me about Horseshoe and that was an easy win, so I said yes.
Mooch planning is ticking. This one is much more relaxed than the last one, which is nice. I'm hoping not to take it in the gut like last time. Funny, just after I wrote that sentence I got an email that was a reminder of what the next 2+ weeks are going to be like. Anyway, it is what it is. I'm not drinking for this one because I have the state crit the next day.
One day I hope to do a TT, open to the public. Maybe even this fall?
