This Season's Gong Show

yes, i would. can i get fries with that?

Yes, you can have fries. However, 1 hour before and 1 hour after you're not allowed to eat them. I do wonder what things we'd go through to lose weight. I sometimes think that we all say, "I've tried everything and nothing works." In fact, I bet a lot of times we've tried only 1 thing: some way/shape/form of starvation. That's probably a b-line to failure. Actually, it's documented to fail about 95% of the time.

To answer your question, no, not trying to trick my mind like that, but you're really not too far off. I/we have trained our minds to send hunger signals 24/7. The goal is to stop those signals. The theory isn't mine but I've got some personalized tweaks on it that the original theory doesn't state.

Nutrition item #4: Beer probably needs to go for now. At least for me. I find myself exactly like what Iggy said a while ago. Beer just tastes wrong now. It hurts my head almost instantly. Last night, the idea of a beer seemed to make my head hurt more.

see here's my thing. now granted, i'm always hungry BUT i've more or less been able to dictate what weight i want to be. if i wanted to be big, i ate more went to the gym and picked things up and put them down. if i wanted to drop weight, well, i ate more but then ran, rode and swam, played lax or whatever to offset the number. it's really only been over the last three years i guess, that i haven't had the abililty to do it. hell, the only way i was able to break 185 two years ago was by getting the swine flu. best diet i ever went on. ever. but i was able to keep under 190 for a damn long time which is remarkable for me in my "adult" life. so when i say i want to drop weight, i'm still playing in the three years ago mentality. i think in truth i will and do have to make changes to do it now. sometimes change is good, sometimes it wants a bowl of guac, a bag of chips and a dogfishhead 60 minute IPA.

Rob,

I consider you & Norm to be friends, so I am going to be honest as well.

Norm put you in his blog not to call you out but to put some detail into what he writes. It tells a better story with you in there as a point of reference. Norm is faster then you, he is faster then me...he is faster then a lot of people. If he wrote that he passed Roger Foco then you can call bs.

I've raced with you Rob and know that you are a strong cat 1 contentender who has awesome technical skills...no one thinks your lame and if they do they don't know you.

See you at Mooch Madness😀

Nutrition # 3 - I believe it is harder for guys like you & Utah to stay away from food cravings. You guys have been used to eating a certain way as kids and now its extremely difficult to change those eating habits. If you grew up skinny its easier to stay skinny. You and Utah have to battle to keep off weight. The positive is that you guys have sooo much power on a bike.

Well anyway I offer nothing but encouragement towards your weight loss, the same goes for Utah.

Chris, the point of my reply was not about who's faster then who? I dont doubt for a second that Norm is a strong rider and on many days can beat me (not on this day 🙂). But I barely know him and have never raced with him to my knowledge, so for him to say "I should be beating Rob Hayes" sort of pissed me off! I am relativley easy going and humble but when you mention my name in that context (especially if you are someone I don't really know) my competivness is going to come out and I will let you know whats on my mind!

Thanks for your input Chris!!

Glad Norm and I are at least providing some entertainment for the loyal readers🙂

I haven't seen it mentioned yet in the thread but it has been all the rave in magazines and by health freaks... Coconut water and suppliers of make some big claims of potassium and essential electrolytes

Sorry to offend. And sorry to have an overinflated sense of my own ability.

To answer your question, you are the only person that passed me after I broke that I knew. I encouraged you on the trails but you didn't even acknowledge me. Regardless of why I felt I was faster I thought it was a lame move by me to DNF after you passed me because I should step up and take getting beaten. I did and I was.

As for what I write and think, I'm just being honest. People don't have to read and surely they don't need to take what I say seriously. Why you would call this thread "all important" is curious, since most of what I post here is gibberish.

Norm, apology accepted! just had to let you know how I felt!

As far as not acknowledging you when I passed you, I too am sorry but I was probably having a hard enough time breathing and turning over the pedals that talking may have caused me to lock up and tip over:drooling:

See ya around!

This is a very true statement with corrections to your spelling, what school did you go to. Very humble you are but competitive you take it to next level my friend. I know you both well and know that I shall bring the peace summit to end this off the court but on court well lets just say racers start your engines. Whens the first cross race?😀

I am a proud graduate of "NWR" class of "82" yes I knew the spelling was off but don't have spell check and didn't feel like looking it up! Thanks for the spelling comment Mr. Webster 🙂

I will not be at a cross race until sometime in October!! Time to start dusting of the Cannondale CX bike!! Will you be doing any CX racing this fall Mr Bender?

I will be at some but only as a supporter not a racer...

All good, all good.

I decided to buy Rob lunch today. Unfortunately for RCH57, it was RNG1 that came downtown. I really need to find other spots to go to lunch. The place we've gone to both times was fine, but it's time to diversify. RNG1 wasn't too excited with my suggestion of street vendor food.

I hear ya about the falling over thing. That's why I was walking 🙂

Ask Rob Jr what he thinks about coconut water.

We sure have a lot of Robs around here.

How could anyone turn down some good ole street meat or dirty water dogs?

So what's the Rob count here? This is fun.

good ole street meat

I thought that had a totally different meaning.

So what is that you guys are eatting that is making you fat? From reading past Normogs, he used to see like he ate pretty damn healthy and I don't think that has changed.

I wish I had all the answers. For me it may be the case that I eat too much at night. I don't know, though. I just went to lunch and got this fairly healthy tuna over salad thing, while Rob pounded a burger and fries. I know that some people will say I should just pound burgers and fries, but no, that's a bad idea. That's what got me into this mess in the first place.

Another point in my grand theory:

#5: After going back and forth with this one for some time, I now believe that a calorie is not a calorie. We have this notion that a calorie is a calorie which in the sense of straight physics, may be true. But there are obvious health benefits of one food over another plus what I'm now starting to believe are negative correlations to future hunger.

Translation: If I eat crappier food in the "free calories" I have every day, my body trains itself to scream later for more of that crappy food. So at the end of the day, if you are 300 calories short on the day, you're going to do a lot more damage if you eat a chocolate bar than a salad, for instance.

It goes beyond the obvious. If I eat the salad, in 2 hours I won't be starving. If I eat the chocolate, I will be. People have postulated that sugar spikes are what cause this. But I'm thinking that's a load of shit. I think your body is just associating the awesomeness of chocolate with the calories, and you more or less cause your body to be addicted to that calorie bomb.

The theory isn't perfect. It's a working theory. I'm not even sure how I started down this road today. It's far too early to talk about this. I guess I'm starting to focus more on it these days. I need to hit 168. Absurd number? Maybe. But there it is.

Wow, 168 is agressive, but good luck. For myself, I just dipped below 160 for the first time in a few years. I wonder what would happen is I didn't each 3 oreos or a bag of m&m's every work day afternoon?

I saw 169 last year. Once. So it's only right to try to beat it. At the time, I more or less starved myself to get there.

If you didn't eat those things? Probably nothing would change is my guess.

Well if I got this right RCH is really a bob no? At least that's what I've been calling him when we race together. But then again I thought Jimmy was manny. Anyway I suggest we call RCH " fast Bob" or maybe just FB unless we can get sued for that. He clearly has earned that title this year. Seriously bro you are just killing it. At least I can brag and say " yeah I beat that guy a few times" (3 years ago...)
