The U.S. Forest Service was established February 1, 1905, by President Theodore Roosevelt.
Gifford Pinchot was the first United States Chief Forester.
Today the Forest Service administers the nation's 154 national forests, 20 national grasslands,
9 national monuments, and 1 National Historic Site (Grey Towers National Historic Site) which encompass 193 million acres.
