Yeah! I can't wait for the redistribution of wealth. I have been praying for the day I could share all that I worked so hard for when I had to live out of my beat up old car and put myself through school on borrowed money. But it's ok with me. I can overlook the fact that everyone I know that is currently on unemployment or welfare has a big fancy flatscreen tv and premium cable service - why not give them more entitlements:hmmm:
But seriously, you have to tip your hat to a political machine that can take an unknown quantity and defeat the presumed candidate that would have at least followed more in line with what the people wanted. Because you know that the people were just begging for a candidate that would eliminate confidential balloting for union elections, etc...

I paid for 4 years of private college with hard work and even paid for a year in cash. Living out of a car is a luxury for some. Flat screen tvs and premium cable don't come from welfare or unemployment, they come from credit, which is a personal choice.
I still live like a cheap bastard without sacrificing a good life, I still seek every opportunity to make a buck without screwing someone over, and I still
believe that all things are possible.
I can't wait to go riding this weekend.

Wish I could meet up with you for that ride, but I have to work this weekend to pay my share of the Alternative Minimum Tax, NJ State Income Tax, NY State Income Tax, McGreevey's toilet paper tax, Corzine's increased MVC fees... oh well, you get the point

Now for something really important...
WTF was Michelle Obama thinking when she put that dress on last evening?!
Seriously, the next four years are gonna' be a tough...no matter who won last night.
I won't go into who I pushed the button for and why, nor am I gonna' gloat or belly-ache. What I will offer is this....
For those of you in the Obama camp: Congratulations. Mr. Obama ran a brilliant campaign and did what he had to do to win. And he did it with class. Anyone who can't concede that wasn't paying much attention.
For those of you in the McCain camp: Today, we've seen an involvement of the populace in our democracy that we haven't seen in my lifetime. Certainly, Mr. Obama (or at least his campaign) had a lot to do with that as has the dire situation our country is in at this moment. One thing Mr. Obama must do, we must do, is keep that energy and involvement going. Why? Well, because without it, the possibility of grass roots efforts will fade and the only solution game in town will be the government. And I know (philosophically) y'all don't want that!!! Like it or not, the Obama message of involvement and service that we've seen in this campaign, I believe is a core building block needed to support the Republican ideology of where our societal issues s/b dealt with. I won't even go into how this is a major kick in the pants the Republican party needed to get...
Spin? Maybe...but that is how I see it.

I got a kick out of this bit I recently read. Might as well put it out there for the people unhappy about yesterday's results:

And I think there's something to be noted there - "when I get to work." If I'm not mistaken, I still had to get up, go to work, and make my own breakfast this morning.
I generally stay away from these discussions because they're nothing but trouble. I did vote for Obama and I'm pleasantly surprised that the country really did pull through on what the polls suggested would happen. But at the start of the day, and the end of the day, this doesn't really change much for me. In terms of taxes, almost all of us, or maybe even all of us here, will benefit from Obama's proposed plan. Having said that, personal choices make a much bigger difference in your financial situation than the president's effect on your net income. Stop eating lunch out every day and buying $3 of coffee a day. Furthermore, if you don't actually have a job, who cares about the tax rate? The most telling stat about last night was that Obama won among people who make $200k or more. Shocking, and that tells you all you need to know. The economy is the priority for most Americans.
Good post by Fogerson. I'm cautiously optimistic that "things" will get better on the word stage, of which America plays a huge part. For the first time in a good 8 years, I think no part of me is ashamed to be American. If nothing else, Obama has already had more of an effect on me than any president in history. That's saying something.
But as it pertains to my life, I'm more concerned about my ride tomorrow morning, and Saturday morning, and the TM session at Mahlon on Sunday, and the imminent announcement of the 2009 MTBNJ Raffle which I'm going to post later this morning, and the Halter's MTBNJ sale on shoes, gloves, and socks that I'll post next week.

i think its also worth mentioning that both obama's speech and john mccain's speech last night were well done. worth reading/listening to if you haven't heard them. mccain's consession was particularly good IMO.

might be a good idea to close this thread. another board im on doesnt allow political threads only because it causes unneeded beef and eats up bandwidth. personally(and i know its not my decision), i dont really want to know about anyones political beliefs on here. id rather argue over things like wheel size, because that wont be taken to heart and change opinions on people.

one unfortunate thing that will stick around in history is that McCain ran an absolute shite campaign. dirty, buzzword and slogan-centered, focused almost entirely on Obama and not his own beliefs. and that's before we even talk about the miscue with palin or the pitfalls of personalizing a symbol (joe the plumber.)
even if i believed in McCain's idealogy (whatever that may have been), which I don't, I wouldn't have ever voted for him based solely on his inability to run a dignified, well-managed campaign.
