I've been dying to get out on my board. Started planning a long weekend trip with my buddies down at the lighthouse in Cape Hatteras, NC. Gotta wait till August for that though.

The surf sucks because we had such a good early spring, I think, but then again what do I know?

It’s been so bad, it hasn’t even been doable on a noserider, no less a shortboard. To boot, the water doesn’t seem to be warming up as fast as it usually does. What the hell happened to global warming? It’s supposed to warm up the water and bring lots of hurricanes, and I don’t see either of those trends happening. Where is that skateboard of mine…

yeah - i just read the water seems to have gotten cooler - weird.

FFT i think you're right. maybe jersey ran out of good karma for our flat summers???

saturday and sunday look like the days... thing is, it looks like it will be drier for the weekend... which means going riding on dirt will be tempting.

Surf temps. are changed by wind direction this time of year. Many years of surf fishing teaches you to watch wind directions.

Mrs. Nimrod, the Boys, and I also go every year. This year its the week of 8-9. We rented a house in Kill Devil Hills.

That drive down route 12 to Hattereras is amazing........like one of the top car rides in the world = Very pretty.

Also the great thing about the NC Surf scene is the amount of women surfing

Here is what early sping looks like, not so much of a lake.
My friends call this guy monkey ass, but he's actually quite a baboon.

where to go?

I just moved in from Huntington Beach, Cali. Where's the good local NJ breaks? I have no clue where to go.

wow - huntington? well, you'll probably be missing west water conditions, but NJ can satiate your wave needs i guess.

i usually hit the towns of spring lake or lavalette (spring lake is my fav - relatively close to me and its a little deeper - best at low tides), there's also belmar, casino pier, and manasquan. there's also more stuff down south i'm not entirely familiar with... like long beach island (LBI) and ocean city.

best time is fall through spring - summer's are generally crowded with flat conditions, but there's an occasional bump here and there with storms. fall and winter are generally the best seasons for swell.

if you go during the summer, do some early dawn patrols - you beat the fee for beach access, you can pick any beach before lifeguards get out, and you'll generally only be sharing the water with a few other people... generally.

Looks like Saturday will be the day with leftovers on Sunday. So nice when the waves and weekend coincide. I'll be on it.

Duke Storm has really been a slacker lately.

Cool link, thanks.

With gas so expensive, I havent wet a line fishing the surf in a long while.

have you heard how the bass have been around lately? it's been nuts the past week to ten days - actually last weekend i heard there were a few unfriendly dorsal fins showing up and cruising the line up... probably feasting on some fat striped bass. i'm sure the fisherman are psyched... me, i'm not so psyched to hear that.
