The Soda Stream Thread

Pearl

THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING
I saw some discussion on this when I did a search and figured it deserved its own thread.... and since we just got one, I wanted to hear what you do to spice it up. To catch you up to my fizzy consumption, I was addicted to soda, would have it for almost every meal/snack, then I quit for a while, then jumped back on the bandwagon at having soda for lunch, then I found seltzer and my addiction is now with that. To the point that when I walk past the fridge I grab a can, sometimes it's 4 cans a day. So we decided this would be a good fit for us. I've mixed up some concoctions and have had some great success (squeeze of lemon and lime has been a favorite) but wonder what other tips and tricks you have. How many pumps we talmbout? What we putting in our bubbly?

Tart cherry juice is an interesting addition. It looks dark and thick like a red stout. It tastes pretty good. And is good for you I think.

I just mix it with seltzer sometimes. I don’t have the stream thing

long time Soda streamer. 3 pumps in the small bottle. Fizz is better than 6 pumps in the large.
interesting, will give this a go. i think 5 in the big bottle seems to be best for me ATM, i do notice it goes flat faster, like in 24 hours, so just need to drink it faster lol

Since virtual riding has become the norm I find cyclists begin winter at 59 degrees.
I mean that is about right for me do

Funny I just gave our machine away to someone on FB. Used it for a while
And used to buy the sugar free flavor splash things to put it. Then I moved more to cranberry juice or apple juice. Then we decided the bottles in the fridge take up too much room and I could drink the entire liter in one sitting. It sat on my kitchen counter collecting dust for probably 2? Years and now with the holidays we cleaned out a lot of junk.

I have a healthy ? addiction to flavored seltzers to the point probably drink 4-6 cans of bubyl or polar a day. I don’t drink any soda (coke, sprite, etc) at all except probably a coke if I’m on a long bike ride. Or an occasional ginger ale to keep my sensitive stomach in check.

I’d suggest to flavor the soda stream stuff naturally like lemons etc rather than the flavored drops but I still use these in my water too sometimes.

Yeah, that's why the 1/2 liter sizes are best for one person. I'll easily drink it up within an hour or two

this has been good advice so far. still going with my squirt of lemon, squirt of lime juice.

i do notice that im missing the feeling of the cold can, is that what alcoholics miss too?

Holy 10 years ago. Is Sodastream still a thing? We used to do this until we ran out of co2 and forgot about it for a while. With the cans being so cheap now it's almost not worth it anymore. I did get on that bandwagon for a year or two though...

But what about the earth dude? Sometimes it’s about more than saving a few cents.

Will need to do the math of the soda stream numbers, but:

12 pack/12 oz = $4.50, .375 cents per can/12 oz., or $0.03125 per oz
Say 4 cans a day, thats $1.50 per day
$547.50 per year, or 17,520 oz per year

They say the 14.5oz co2 thingy makes approx 60 liters (2028 oz) for $17. Is that $0.008 per oz?
Or 8.6 co2 things for $153 for the year

So based on my spitball math I think it is cheaper, plus I don't need to lug 4 cases of that stuff out of the grocery store

You forgot to include whatever flavor your adding. While it may be inexpensive the extra juices and such you add on your own are not cheap.

I did the math not to long ago bc my wife was looking at the machines and if you use their flavor packets it's a wash vs buying cans price wise maybe a bit more expensive but nothing significant.

im just just stealing a squirt of lemon or lime juice i dont think it makes enough of a difference

maybe if the habit gets worse and i dive into flavors, i still think it's tough to make up almost $400 over a year

Whats the $400?

the difference between buying ~121 12 packs from harris teeter versus 9 co2's to cover beverage consumption for the year
My wife drinks alot of sparkling water, i did the math on the co2 canisters for a year and it was more considerably more expensive. Sorry environment.

The flavoring is expensive by comparison. I did 3 different brands. Soda stream ninja and one other. All were pretty similar to canned prices at that point. And def less work to just buy the cans
