I thought the shroom shelves on this tree were cool (couldn't get a pic underneath, too bright, too dark)...



...until my friend pointed this one out a few feet away. A beauty!

The first one I would guess Ganoderma applanatum aka artist's conk.

The second one is Laetiporus sulphureus aka chicken of the woods. Probably dried up by now, but in the photo looks in prime shape for eating!

Compare with Amanita muscaria var. guessowii aka American yellow fly agaric.

Thought it might be chicken of the woods. Was in great shape.

Saw these on today's ride. Bright orange! Second photo shows even brighter orange underneath with lots of tiny pores.

Chicken of the woods still there. Doesn't look anywhere near as good as it did on Sept 17 when I was last here.

There was this on the ride today. Bigger than a golf ball, smaller than a base ball. A perfect ball underneath too. I didn't effin eat it.

Looks like Coprinus "Inky cap". Edible as long as you don't drink alcohol with them.

I'd want to see the inside to be 100%, but it looks like one of the puffballs. If you slice it open and it's pure white inside (like tofu), you can eat it.

Looks like Coprinus "Inky cap". Edible as long as you don't drink alcohol with them.

They are Coprinus comatus aka shaggy mane. Choice edible and no reaction with alcohol. Coprinopsis atramentaria has smooth caps and are poisonous with alcohol.
