First winter in a long time that we have not had the base in your face contest. In lieu of a winter long thing, i always thought that shorter “contests” would attract more people as the BIYF was always over in a few weeks anyways. So here it is:

Post your rides in january within a couple days of them happening:
  • Each ride gets 1 point per hour, strava/garmin/map my ride or similar link required. I will round to 0.01 of an hour, no minimum.
  • A picture with your ride gets 1 point, images of your ride stats, or zwift picture doesnt count. Multiple pictures is cool but no extra points. Picture point is one per day.
  • A few words are encouraged, in general only exceptional writing contributions may be awarded a point
  • Yes, indoor rides are included
There will be some kind of winner and some sort of prize, let’s motivate each other to get out there this month!

Did a few rides this past week expecting a lull in riding for a few days. Somehow New Year's morning turned into an impromptu "easy" group ride (vs no ride at all... Because NYE shenanigans). So I grabbed my 130/140mm G4 Top Fuel expecting to go play in the woods, and instead ended up sweeping a much faster rigid-SS group that branched off of the easy/fun group.

Thought I was in for a,1/1 ride . But it was only 59 minutes. Oh well!
I'm in.
Thanks @stb222

Fenders on your bike in winter is pretty great.
Chunky bar after the ride.
I have a goal of over 3000 miles this year. I'm always between 2k and 2.5k.
My best year was COVID 2020 over 4,000 miles

My local mtb spots aren't the best with the wet but I stayed away more so because of the wind and trees falling is scary. Stiff wind out and enjoyed some of it on the way back.

No minimum time, log it!

1/1 - Zwift (Big Ring): 1:30:46

I am not going to post a picture from the following week, or some other day. I don't really think that my Zwift ride deserves a +1 for a picture of something inside. I know the times, they be a-changing. So Zwift is a reality now. Hell, I was 1 of the OG winter riders back in the day. There were days I was on the bike by 5am in the dead of winter. Those days are long gone. I just went outside and it's upper 30s, and it feels way too cold for me. The smart trainers have killed almost all my desire to ride outside in the winter now.

I will try to add some words in the a) attempt to get free points and b) to generate conversation. Recently I took a new job. This is located in the CST and I have been riding before work over the last 3+ weeks or so. I am trying to get myself back in the morning routine as I think it's better to start your day this way; at least for me it is. It also helps motivation a lot. Now I am wondering if I have the ability to get back to some fraction of what I was. It's easier to be lax, or skip days, when you backload your riding. So many things come up that you often ride less, or not at all. Riding in the morning is an attempt to change that. So far it's been good.

I know motivation comes & goes, and the past few years has not seen me bring a lot of it to the table. I still ride plenty. But it's more unfocused than focused. I'm trying to fix that a little bit right now.

In any event, I guess I will play along even if I think my inside rides are not as worthy as the outside ones.
