our house was built in the early 1900s (we think 1910ish) and can confirm the old growth 2x4s that were used in our walls are more dense, they also petrify (is that the right word?) rock hard and drilling through them is a treat.

@JimN that's one thing I miss about my Fit - the huge gaping hole in the back that you can shove almost anything in. The CrossTrek just doesn't cut it.
