And when you smash them in your house more will come. Learned the hard way. Now I pick them up with toilet paper (gently) and flush them down the toilet

Yep, never actually smashed one and always used the toilet paper trick. When I moved out of my first apartment in Clifton I realized they nested inside my window A/C unit. It was the most gross thing. Ended up taking the whole thing apart, flush all of them out it with scolding hot water and then installed fine mesh netting to every single opening and vent of the unit. Done the same to all A/C unit I bought after that as soon as I got them home.
