The July 31/31 Classic p/b Halter's, JORBA, & MTBNJ

Day 30 - Overdue adventure into the Watchung hills. Clearly not prepared for hills; but, happy I’ve started the process.

Moody Trails in Claremont, NH. This was the closest spot of interest to our campground. We set off at 4:30am-ish from Mays Landing packin' 4x family and a 85lb special-needs golden. We usually leave later and deal with traffic, etc. but driving north is something I'm too familiar with to deal with that.

We were fully set up at Tree Farm Campground in Springfield, VT by 1pm and grilling lunch. Most of us took a nap after lunch. I watched some Olympics, rode around the camp to get the lay of the land, then headed to Moody which was less than 20 mins away.

No pic of camp in daylight, so here's our local jersey devils doing touch and go's yesterday while I was driving home from dropping off a metric shiiton of trash at the ACUA dump:

Moody was small, as expected, and some stuff was wet, which sucked. I had to walk a few sections to not leave trace, and soon realized that at a certain elevation everything was finest-kind. The most fun trail was "Gravity Cavity" which is a ridiculous fall-line descent fully paved with x-type block that G's out over a bridge then ascends the same type block with a fun rolling sender. Hard to explain but crazy 30+ mph no brakes fun if you dare.

Tomorrow is Flow State Fest at Ascutney. I'm really looking forward to seeing friends, getting my son on a trail bike demo or two, and riding some old favs. Also super stoked to close out 31/31 with @Norm

Last Runs
It poured after 4 yesterday, overnight and was spotty this morning so we were ok waiting until the afternoon. We get out around 2 and do our warm up runs on the blue flows. We see a guy we know from home and do a run with him and then head over to ramshead.
It cold as the wind was whipping and it is raining on the way up. We scope the upper drop in goat skull but with the wet we decide it isn’t a good idea, so we hit blue magic and on the connector to Krusty, my son gets stuck in some mud and goes OTB. I am in front and don’t hear it. I realize he isn’t behind me and go back up. Bar to the gut and shaken, dropping f bombs, but ok. We take a break and enjoy a $7 brownie.
Coming back to ramshead we see @Robin, @chemgirl and crew just as I am spilling coffee all over myself. We do a rip on black magic but the last two days have worn on us and my son was feeling the crash a bit. That trail is great but man is it balls out speed for the whole run.
We do another blue magic and lower goat skull and lots of dad feels following my son through the chunk and off a drop. Finish up on the other side and grab the last chair and take some pictures on the way down. Of course now it is clear and sunny.
