The beach

I want to take my wife to the shore tomorrow as I've been neglecting her lately. Any advice on a beach to go to?

Looking for a quiet beach not packed with people where we can sit and read and relax. No boardwalks or lifeguards blowing whistles all day. I'm in southern NY so I also don't want to drive to Delaware. Thanks y'all.

it'll be pretty open. seriously you'll have no one really down except for locals and surfers this time of year.

Island Beach State Park is pretty nice this time of year. Quite a hike from Southern NY though. Just a thought if you can't find something closer to you.

Yea every beach will be pretty empty. Not sure how far you want to go but Manasquan has a nice beach (a lot of shore locals go there in the summer) and you can head into the small town for lunch. I like the Committed Pig.

If you're up for the drive... Hit up Cape May... Lots of stuff to do with the womens...

+ Go to the Lobster house for lunch and sit out in the back by the boats and eat outside..

I guess it all depends on what you're into..

Sandy hook, island beach, or go hike up ol' barney. The lighthouse is easily the best attraction in the state. And its like a dollar or free.

Yeah, Im a beach bum and the beaches are empty. Been riding my bike through Sandy Hook most weekends and its dead. Was in Asbury last Thursday and it was also quiet. Pretty much anyplace without a huge boardwalk will be peaceful. Some towns on LBI still have lifeguards on duty(if you want to swim), but I think this is the last weekend.

Honestly, this time of year its surfers, fisherman and locals on the beach. Enjoy.

go to Spring Lake. Very pvt, boardwalk, no stores on beach. Nice little town center in a few blocks.

I have a feeling you will not find total silence whatever beach you go to this weekend. It's going to be perfect beach weather where ever you choose. It was mentioned life guards are no longer manning beaches. I can't speak for all beaches but down in Long Beach Island the life guards are out until the end of Sep. I know this would be a 2 hour ride but no board walks and a great island to ride the bike up and down if you choose. About 19 miles end to end. And the water will be great swimming conditions. Enjoy where ever you choose.

I'm in Harvey cedars and it's DEAD down here. The best week I've spent at the Jersey shore in ax long time

My most favorite time of the year to be on Long Beach Island is from mid September to about the first week or so of May. Traffic lights are off, no crowds, quiet. Good times.

Thanks for the advice. Prob just start at sandy hook and drive south until my wife sees a beach she likes ( it would be funny if she chose gunnison as I know she has no idea what that beach is about)

Once on Sandy Hook, you will have to drive north to get to Gunnisons 😀

Heading south from Sandy Hook, you wont find any public stuff until you get to Sea Bright, which is still kinda in disrepair from the hurricane. After Sea Bright is Long Branch, Monmouth Beach, then Deal, Allenhurst, then Asbury.

I'd say if you want total quiet and relaxation, Sandy Hook may be your best bet. Pack a cooler with snacks, and then stop somewhere and have a nice lunch.
