Local Bergen County based mountain bike team makes itself known in the mountain bike community. Team Campmor, consisting of nineteen racers, both male and female ages 16 to 60 score high in the tri-state area’s premier cross country mountain bike race series, The Campmor Hudson to Highlands Series. The series is 9 races long, starting in May and ending in October.

Team Campmor racer Ed Ceccolini, will be taking home the winners jersey in the Pro field by winning 4 of the 9 races. The team’s Ben Williams won the Expert men’s 40-49 class, and Darlene Phillips won the Expert women’s 35+ class. Close behind were the team’s Tom Stanowski, 2nd in the Expert men’s 50+, Ellen White 2nd Expert women 35+ and Alberto Solano 2nd Open Single Speed.

The team also had a strong showing in the developmental classes, with Zach Koop winning the Sport men 19-29, Laura Winberry winning the Sport women 12-34, and Jeff Coneys taking 3rd in the Sport men 40-49. Kyle Paolucci won the Beginner men 19-29 and Tyler Conlon, the team’s youngest member, took 2nd in Beginner men 15-18.

While engaging in racing is the main quest of the team, the team also put in over 200 hours of volunteer trail work in neighboring parks, and with the help of family members of the team, close to 300 volunteer hours were performed this past season. With a shortage of trail networks open to mountain bikes in the New Jersey area, The Jersey Off Road Bicycle Assoc. (JORBA) has created an incentive program called Paydirt, where racers get points for doing trail maintenance added to their series score. Gary LoRusso, manager of the Campmor Team, along with many other team managers, have made it a team requirement to do volunteer Trail work (Paydirt). This past year, three new areas were developed for mountain biking that held their first ever races. One of these areas is the Jungle Habitat property in West Milford. Team Campmor was a major volunteer contributor to the trail building efforts on this State Park property.

The team also organized five all women events to encourage more women to get involved in mountain bike racing and mountain biking in general. Getting women into the sport has always been a huge stumbling block over the years, and this past year, female participation became the highest ever. Expect to see even more women next year.

Team Campmor would like to give a big thanks to it's sponsors: Campmor, Titus, Easton, Sidi, Giro, Bell and Vredestein. The team has begun it’s winter training and looks forward to the 2008 race season!
