Suggestions for cross country skis

Lil on the heavy side unless you're, lets say, husky. Quality and price are fine;)

I should check some of those packages out. The snow is not going anywhere and I need outdoors. Sledding is one thing but XC will allow me to cover more ground faster. Recomendations from that page for say, Ringwood and Ramapo trails?

I do like this pkg for condtions right now at Ringwood/Ramapo.

The problem is we don't usually get this much snow in the winter and 70mm skis thrive in deeper snow. The Rossi 70's are a good back country ski but are also a lot of ski to kick and glide with on flatter packed terrain.

This may be a better compromise for a BC performance that will also give some kick and glide .

Campmor carries XC skis and boots, but stock is getting lean, so do not waste too much time. I am guessing a package is around $250 - $$400.

I would recommend these options of xc skis for you. I am assuming you want to pop skis on and go explore your area. Here are 3 skis in different $$ categories

If you stay in flatter, lite terrain you can go with a touring set up. Going to the back country category of skis will get more costly.

I held off Big D on the 70s in Stokes the other day in some pretty deep stuff. Float comes in handy sometimes but at the end of the day you're lifting the ski a bazillion times w snow on top of it. The weight becomes very apparent:drooling: I have 61s and am only movin to 65s when i do move. Somebody please buy those Silent Spiders so i can get a live review. I think that mcnutt dude got the last set of 65s w/ x5s frrom llbean and now i'm KICKIN MYSELF for hesitating:mad2:

Hey guys
What do you think about this skis , I rented this skis at Rock&Snow in New paltz and use them on groomed trails and really liked them. Do you think they will be ok for deeper snow and backcountry?
Fischer Jupiter Control.

Those are great skis for beginners because of the stable platform under your feet but those skis are suited for in track skiing and will not perform as well as these http://www.orscrosscountryskisdirect.com/rossignol-bc-65-backcountry-skis.html

I am torn between snow shoes and xc skis. What one do you think would get used more?

?only you can answer that?

If done with vigor both can provide excersise and are great fun in the snow. You can always rent xc skis at High Point , I think they rent snow shoes as well.

As a xc ski guy I'd say go the skis route...but it aint for everyone so try both and see what you like.

I ALMOST pulled the trigger on these the other day, but am afraid to stray from the Rossis that have been so good to me. I was lookin at 179s and im 6', 173#. Perfectley spec'd pkg.

I think I'm going to go with the Fischer Silent Spider package from LL Bean...thanks to all for the info

Looking for dog friendly trails...probably start out kicking around Lake Surprise (South Mth Resi) and then hit up Lewis Morris once I get up to speed.
