Sub $2500 FS Suggestions

Need to purchase a new bike ASAFP, and any suggestions would be appreciated. Ride Northern NJ trails, no big drops, but aggressive XC/All mountain riding style. Replacing a C-Dale Jekyll, and my short list contains the Rush, Giant Trance or Reign.

i know people bash trek constantly, but i've had nothing but good things with my ex7. i started riding the bike when i was about 250ish and it took all i could give it. now that i'm under 210, it should be even better.

jake, thanks for the trek info. my first mtb was a trek antelope (6300 i think?), and i switched to c-dale after that.

I am leaning towards the reign, but i just love the lefty. The rush is off the radar, but the prophet popped up again last night. I will also be looking at the stump jumper fsr, and will give jay's heckler a spin.

Problem w/c-dale is that they load a good frame with a great fork, but tend to have cr*ppier componets (i've owned 3 so far). In the past, I have run into costly trouble in the replacement/upgrade arena because of proprietary specs (the 4-bolt rotor issue for my jekyll brake repalcement) or having to replace cr*ppy CODA components with more-expensive cr*ppy CODA components.

Will this next bike be c*dale? 50/50. Why? Becasue I am a glutten for punishment, and I just love the lefty.

I have a Mountain Cycle Fury with a manitou minute up front and a 5th Element under my bum. I've never actually weighed the bike but it's quite burly and so likely a bit of a chubster - but it's not going to break anytime soon.

i must admit that I haven't managed to set the suspension correctly for all of the stones up here and tend to get my teeth rattled on the down slopes but with a single pivot suspension at least I haven't clanged my non-existene chainstay!

But I have bent my break rotor!!

So perhaps don't listen to me then!

Sweet! Glad I could help. I agree with some other posters about c'dale proprietary components being a hassle. I've had a very good experience with the Reba fork and hopefully you will too.

Thanks! I spoke to John, and they are making diamond plated shock guards for the Trance - should be around $40, where the carbon goes for $85. Now let's hope that delivery comes in today - I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve!!!!

The shock is more exposed on the '06 frames so I guess they're making a cover to help protect it.

Although I don't think it needs to be plated with diamonds. :)

Bike is awesome! Didn't have enough time to shoot some porn for the site - back from the shop late. Specced out well, race race face stem/handlebar/ crank/seatpost, sram shifters and rd, xt fd, hayes discs, reba fork, fox rp3, wtb saddle and mavic 317 rims.

The welds look cool. A little disaapointed in the finsih - some blemishes beneath the clear coat - but hey, it's a mountain bike! Color ain't the worst (burnt orange), but it ain't the best (or sh*t brown) either. I'm probably gonna spin kvsp tonight to see how it really rides!

Post some pics of that beast! :)

I had a chance to see that thing in action and it looks like a solid bike. I'm still amazed by the weight.
