Stratton, worth it?

I rode Stratton today, fun, I stand by my assessment. Killington has 10x the terrain and variety, water management is much better and that leads to more open trails that are in better condition. Killington has something for everyone, Stratton is good for the family. I wish Stratton were comparable, it’s extremely accessible to me.

Some context may be helpful for others interested. I live in Ringwood, been riding here 30 yrs. I have slopeside access to free mtb trails (obvs volunteer when I can). If I travel and have to pay to ride, I expect it to be as good or better than local free trails.

Join VMBA, get free passes and if you have ikon, use those free passes.

If you have to pay, Stratton is cheap and has a great weekday uphill policy. There is nothing at Stratton that will require you raise the bar. It’s fun, but you’re done in 3 hours. The staff at Stratton are top notch, very friendly and helpful. Every Stratton resort employee and every shop and restaurant.

Killington is flat out worth full day price. I can do 3 days in a row and still have things I haven’t done. Plenty of stuff I need to see 2-3 times before I trust my judgement on the line. But it is also a progression park. It has many gradients of green to blue and a skills park. The blacks and double blacks are world class and I won’t even touch the free ride stuff on the cable trail off the peak.

Net/net. Given the choice and if you have to pay, it’s killington by a long shot, constant growth and investment. Trails are well maintained. Stratton has not invested/materially grown since Covid, and I have not seen the plan for growth to warrant optimism, I think they are happy where they are.
