As of 11/13/24, 4PM: Sterling Forest State Park is CLOSED to hunting in all areas and outdoor recreational activities in all forested areas until further notice due to ongoing forest fire and high fire danger levels.

The hot spots next to Longmeadow Road are probably backburns.

For Friday, Nov. 15, Dwyer said the plan is to burn more fuel sources in a section of woods from Long Meadow Road inward, impacting the area “east of Sterling Forest from the Old Forge Road area south to Blue Lake.” Again, residents may be hit by smoke, as another 1,000+ acres will have to be burned.

Sterling Forest State Park Update

Starting 11/23/2024 Sterling Forest State Park will re-open sections of the park for outdoor recreational activities. All Sterling Forest State Park lands South of State Route 17a and West of Long Meadow Road (County Route 84) will remain CLOSED to all outdoor activities until further notice.



Note that it also is open for deer hunting.
