Rigid Fork Suggestions

I'm looking to put a rigid fork on my old hardtail ('99 Trek 8500) and need a little direction. Nothing too fancy (read: cheap) - though I do need disc brake tabs. The bike serves as my "road" bike and currently has a 2001 Marzocchi Z-1 on it that hasn't held oil since 2005 and weighs a ton.

Any thoughts?

Hey Mike,

I should have asked, Define cheap? how much $$? Like everyone is stating you can find a Surly for $86-$88 (Speedgoat cheapest/backordered $63) or a Salsa $78 looks nicer, Imo. (hurry offer ends 1/2) add a box or Clif or Gu gels for free shipping > $100.

I can't find anything "worth it" cheap for Disc Rigid fork , but did find an '07 RS Dart Sus 80mm for $79.98 on Pricepoint. Cheap but heavy. Prob weighs same as you Z1 so you may want get a new seals for the Z1.

later,
TOny

Have you checked the Surly or Salsa sites?

Surly rigid steel forks were $50 a couple years ago when I bought one. May have gone up but will still be the cheapest you can find. Any shop can order one from QBP.

Otherwise, start looking at eBay.
