Right or wrong

I'm having a hard time finding a job that pays well and my unemployment has run out.On top of that my transmission just cost me $2000 to be rebuilt.I've started to sell some of my crap on craigslist but people say I should get rid of a fatbike or two.I say that's the last to go. Am I wrong in thinking that?

I think you decide the priorities in your life, not someone else. If it's a matter of feeding your kids (extreme example I know), that's another story. Also fatbikes have awful resale value so once you get back on your feet it'll cost you double to replace. How's that logic?😀

i would sell everything that needed to be sold to make do, but there is only so much you can do with what youll get. I would sell enough to fix car unless that 2k could be better spent an a $1000 beater car.

I would suck it up and get any job thats available some $$ is better than none and def beats being a .gov teat sucker.

My .02

I can't ride more than one fatbike at a time so I don't see the point in having more than one, unless they have different utility, one is road, one mtb, etc.

There's a difference between being a teat sucker and using the system as it was intended. We all pay into it, might as well use it if needed.

I like the way you think

As for the others,I went to school after being laid off. That's why I was on unemployment and now looking for a job.I didn't say that I was losing my house.I'm just putting a little bit more money into my savings account, just in case.

One thing to consider is that you may be able to get more money for the fatbikes if you give yourself more time to sell them by selling them early. You don't want it to come down to the point when you are so desperate that you end up practically giving them away.

Don't sell the fatbikes, it will cost way more to replace them for what you'll get out of selling.

IIRC- you went to school for hair. Have you ever thought of doing a mobile hair business? Maybe visit some nursing homes or 55 and older communities and see what type of interest there is.

It's hard to say w/o knowing your exact financial situation, but if it comes to it, I don't see a big deal with off-loading the fatbikes. Just like a with a car, you can get a beater fatbike off craigslist or something and it will at least let you ride. Then when you are back on your feet, you can go into the used market again to get a fatbike(s) that's more to your liking. If you stay in the used market, the argument that fatbikes have low resale value doesn't carry as much weight.

They are just fatbikes, it's hard for me to look at them any more than that.

Blasphemy! :getsome:
Both (wait...I have more than 2) my fatbikes are growling at you!

Seriously...Only you can decide if it is right or wrong to unload them, based on your situation.

Wait, cant we go back to the tit sucking people on unemployment, unions, obama, and various other blood suckers? Its been a while. Oh, and sell the fatbike, once china takes over they(fatbikes, not people) will be cheap as sh1t because we(they) will once again be manufacturing here in the the united stated of america(china).

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 😛

Just one thought -- don't know what your overall situation is, but is a part-time gig as a stop-gap an option? Like waiting tables or bartending or something like that? I ask because the money you could make doing that would probably equal what you'd get for your fatbikes in short order, and being that it's PT, you'd probably still have the time to interview for more permanent positions in your field.

What did you go to school for? (You may have mentioned that in the off-topic forums - apologize if I'm asking you to be redundant!) I ask because you may be able to use any forum - this one included - for contacts. Most of us would be happy to give you the heads-up if we hear about a possible job related to your field - especially if it means you get to keep your fatbikes! 😀

Good luck!

haha, I was thinking about this the other day and remembered that old Avis ad - "When you are only No.2 you try harder"

I grew up where there was some great manufacturing - Indian Motorcycles, Columbia fatbikes, Smith & Wesson - would love to see that happen again.

I went to school for cosmetology and the money to start isn't all that great. It turns out that it's one of those jobs that you need to pay your dues before things start to happen.I came here to talk to other MTB riders because most of us love our fatbikes.I have other stuff to sell but when I talk about getting rid of a second car or my woods truck and people freak out. They look at my fatbikes as toys and nothing else. Since the start of this thread I've sold my 1994 Crown Vic which was sitting since January and my 4x8 trailer which I haven't used 2010.

sell everything you have now and move to china😀 (all the loser or the smart one did)

there's no right or wrong in doing what best for your situation needs.go with your guts and your feeling.other than seeking advice over the internet.

^this needed repeating. Some things are not clear-cut right/wrong. Only you can decide if its right or wrong for you. I for one fully understand your affection for your fatbikes. Whatever you decide, you need to evaluate if you can live with that decision AFTER you have done it.

Every one has a different perspective. Like the "Arwen" in "Arwen's Mom" most would look at her like "its just an animal, and a small one at that" I had a friend make a remark that his dog was more valuable than my glider because he is larger 😕 really? in MY eyes, his dog has a price, yet Arwen is priceless. Yet in HIS eyes, it's the other way around. Both of us are right.

If money is the problem, get creative and find other ways to generate some extra income.

I know it wont help, but here's a ((HUG)) 😛

3 years ago I had 3 fatbikes ...then my son was born and I only had 2.
2 years ago I had 2 fatbikes ...then I bought a house and I only had 1.

I simply got rid of the fatbikes I used the least. My experience is that its best to sell the fatbikes when they have some value then try to hang onto them and then have to take nothing when you finally decide to sell.

And you can always buy a new pimp fatbike when the $$ situation improves.
