I believe you are referring to Mountain Laurel. While it's in the same family as Rhodendron, it's a different species.
Mountain Laurel blooms late spring, early summer. They have not bloomed yet in Hartshorne/Huber. Probably start in about another 1-2wks.

My mountain laurel/rhododendrons have just started blooming (Colts Neck).
I imagine full-bloom will probably be 2 weeks.

BTW, could've sworn there are rhododendrons in Allaire, too. Maybe I just think they're everywhere, since the front of the house is a forest of them.
