Rhode Island - Day 1

Gene

The Dancing Machine
Rode two sections today.

First was Woody Hill (
Woody Hill on Trailforks
https://www.trailforks.com/region/woody-hill-21507).
Second was a small section of big river management area (

At Woody Hill I sent the
2024 Woody Hill Fun Ride Intermediate Loop Route
https://www.trailforks.com/goto/ro/57461/ to my garmin. I blame my eyes as I kept falling off course and ended up with just over 8 instead of scheduled 14.4 as I cancelled the loop.

The trail markers at Woody were the best I have ever seen anywhere. Each trail in either direction has mileage, elevation and descent numbers along with difficulty color.

The trails ranged from average climbs to perfect switchbacks. The downhills ranged significantly based on the difficult rating.

Best trails
* Ebb and Flow
* XC Down
* Many others but I kept getting lost… kept ending up on some Main Street.

For my second ride I started to scope Arcadia , but upon seeing the trails felt disappointed. I ended up at Big River and didn’t want to do a big loop so ended up starting a smaller loop from East Greenwich via

Upon scoping the trail I noticed dirt bike tire marks and hoped it was random. After riding the trails got worse and worse from dirt bike tread. I turned it around and hope to retry another section tomorrow.

My days are limited here as I plan on fulfilling my scoutmaster duties on Wednesday from another adult at camp yawgoog where my daughter is spending the week.

I’ll need to wear my big boy pants for some of those trails, but thanks!

Yeah, don’t sneeze. I don’t think it’s the best trail system to ride blind. But I’d prefer a root canal to Big River again.

There was an enduro over the weekend at big river, hence the dirt bike damage.

I’d recommend riding from the Hopkins hill rd lot. A lot of the trails from the greasy joes lot on route 3 are sandy and kinda lame.

Lincoln woods is fun too, but confusing. It’s also basically climb up, descend gnar down. Diamond hill is probably better for a one time ride.
