Returning after extended absence!

Hello All! I'm new to this forum and wanted to say hello. I am not a complete newbie to Mountain Biking but at 48 might as well be! Lol! Back issues have kept me off any bike for a long time, but I have decided you only live once and want to just try to fight through it and begin to regain fitness and form! My backround really is Motocross (and still play ride when I can) but I really want to start to pedal! I have some really wonderful equip just sitting there begging to be used so.......NO MORE EXCUSES! Lol!

Of course now the hurdles....I desperately need to get in shape! Weight, cardio, muscles....you name it! I live 7 min from Chimney Rock Park but honestly I have found it very demanding and difficult to go just "ride". Its rather technical and rocky with all kinds of climbs. There are a few trails but I know I am not really gonna get enough out of it "yet" and would prefer a less intense outing for a bit. Suggestions are more than welcome! Anybody willing to pull around an anchor for a ride or two please let me know! Lol! Seriously, I think this is gonna be more like dipping my toe in at first! I am determined but I want to be realistic and not get in over my head....yet! LOL!

So if anybody has input please feel free to let me know! Im in Bridgewater.

Thanks,
PaulP

Sounds like six mile is a perfect starter for you. Look also here for beginner rides like at Allaire.
Welcome!

Yea I have been looking forward to checking out 6 mile! Never been there but hear its really good riding!

Welcome. Keep hitting up CR, eventually the tech and climbs will get easier. Riding the red trail and white are not too demanding you can work your way up to orange, blue and yellow. Just try to ride for at least 1hr./3-4 x a week.

Cheers.

Too bad you didn't post this a day sooner.. A bunch of us had a "beginners" ride at 6 Mile Saturday morning at about 8:30, you could have tagged along. I'm in a similar situation as you, I hadn't biked in 16+ years and since I had to give up hockey last year due to health issues I got back on the bike this past spring. It comes back to you rather quickly if you have done mountain biking in the past, so keep an eye out for group rides and check out the Allaire ride if it isn't too far from you ;-)

Welcome! There is also the Middlebrook Trail out of Chimney Rock which is pretty flat and low-key. It runs from Newmans Ln NW all the way to Argon Farm Rd. Part of it is visible from google maps https://goo.gl/maps/byq3J5Jfk482

And there's always the D&R Canal tow path if you just simply want to get out and spin to help build up your fitness.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it! Middlebrook trail was suggested to me by a good friend that lives right on the park. So def gonna check that out... Maybe 6 min from my house. I need to get directions to 6M also. And of course the canal is something I was thinking bout as well!

I just bought a road bike as well ( getting that this week... specialized roubaix) which I hope will help with my overall fitness level! Just didn't expect it to be so damn oppressively hot my first week back! Lol!
