Redback/Hutchinson Trail Head Parking

There are two locations for parking when riding the Redback/Hutchinson trails in Sterling forest.

Redback starts at the South Parking lot, South Gate and Buttonwood Rd, Tuxedo GPS 41.176069, -74.226615, Hutchinson starts at North parking lot, Long Meadow Rd GPS 41.207292, -74.239747. It's still an out and back run. The trails meet in the middle.

The Redback trail head is a few hundred feet lower than the Hutchinson trail head on the Long Meadow side, but the trail rides equally well in both directions. If you have a shuttle ride the trail starting at Long Meadow.

The Munsee Eagle trail which is currently under construction forks off both trails about 1/4 mile into the woods from either end. This trail, when complete, will make the ride into a loop that is just under 8 miles long.

Wintertime parking.

The lot on South Gate Rd. is basically unplowable, so after a snow storm please do not expect it to be plowed.

On the other hand, Caretaker lot on Long Meadow Rd. should be plowed. If you want to park there and find that it isn't, please make a friendly inquiry at the visitor center down the road. The rangers there are really good guys and will listen to you. That lot is new and they have never plowed it before.......

And of course you can always stop in at the visitor center and tell the ranger how much you like his park, that goes a long way also.
