recovering from a bulging disk

does anyone have experience getting over a bulged disk? I never had back problems until last month towing my youngest in his bike trailer. Pushing the wrong gear I guess. The MRI report came back as a mild bulge whatever that means. My primary bike is a rigid SS but as long as I can ride again I'll be a happy dude

Yup, plenty of experience. You can do some Googling for "disc herniation", but generally speaking this can be treated effectively with PT. Shouldn't have any issues getting back to riding, but you'll definitely want to take it slowly. There were some other discussions on this forum previously, so you can search for those as well.

My 2021 was pretty much defined by a slipped disk back in May. Been dealing with varying levels of pain to this day.

Get a good PT, follow the program, don't push yourself back too quickly (you have months before prime riding season is back) and consider a bike fit with a certified fitter.

I experienced this about 8-10 years ago, never actually bulged but headed down that road. GP referred to PT for several weeks. Afterward I kept up the exercises and eliminated sitting completely. I mean I sit in a car obviously, but nowhere else - standing desk and bench since 2013. Keep your core fit and no issues to date.

My wife never had back issues until last Feb she ended up in the ER and got diagnosed with 3 herniated discs. She’s not actively into any sports but she could not even walk for over a week.

It was rough for the first month but we found a great spine orthopedist and a great PT place and she stuck to the plan for 2-3 months and she’s pretty much back to normal.

I’m pretty sure the same exercises would apply to bulging disc but once you have a good PT plan you should be ok in a few weeks.

i had a bulging disc/herniated disc diagnosed a few years back (got it moving a generator during hurricane sandy stuff)...

at the time, the ortho prescribed PT which was HUGELY helpful for me! ever since then, it will bark up a bit, and some of these exercises really help to alleviate the pain...

doctor jo is a bit goofy, but she has some really great exercises for all sorts of musculoskeletal stuff..

good luck!

i should, however, mention that, if any exercise type stuff hurts, you shouldn't do it, and should go back to the doc! in fact, i'm surprised the one you saw didn't suggest you try PT right away...

Dang, wish my outcome was as good as those posted. I will say don't mistake a back injury for some sort of pulled muscle, or something you have to exercise out. Had I had a better knowlege of disc injuries I wouldn't be where I am now. Live and learned to late.
